from a junction feels like throttle lag, when you dab the accelerator pedal in D mode

Noticeable in DS mode too? Just started doing it or you just noticed it? Had car long?

No turbo lag at all. That was one of the factors that drew me to the car having test driven Audi Q5s which had shocking levels of lag.

i would discribe it as slow throttle responce at standing start a slight delay before you surge forward

Again, define 'slight'. Is this your first turbo car and is it an issue you have only just noticed or one that;s been there since the start? I mean there is a minor minor delay from standing start or sometimes from kickdown as the box tries to work out where to deliver the power but if it still does it in DS mode then start worrying.

All 40d's will still be covered under warranty. If it was me I'd definitely take it in to be looked at - doesn't sound right to me.

I have the same on my X6 40d, and it's only when pulling out as suggested. It's not turbo lag, but the 8-sp gearbox doesn't pull away in 1st unless DS selected. If I need to 'nip out' then I find DS is better, or more power needs to be applied if in D. Then mine is off like a rocket. I've also found reverse needs a 'little more throttle' than my E53 used to, especially if using and large steering lock. It's not as willing to 'creep' at idle as the 6-sp was.

Absolutely. Mine the same. Into DS for pulling away from junctions. That's what I was trying to spit out earlier!

I'm telling you. I test drove the Q5 TFSI and Q5 3.0 TDI. Not sure if it was the turbo or transmission, but the lag was downright dangerous. Foot flat on the floor, nothing happens at all, wait, wait wait, plenty enough time for someone to pull right in front of you, and then all of a sudden wooshh we're off ... Told them it was a deal breaker for me, and sales lady wasn't surprised - acknowledged problem. Thank goodness for that - X5 is so much better ....

i have tried it in DS mode and its ok, pulls like a train, seems gearbox learns your driving style and pulls away in 2 nd gear in D mode, didnt realise until today that in manual mode it changes down automatically when coming to a junction.
Gearbox reset is.
automatic transmission reset procedure that goes something like the following: Turn on the car such that all the accessory lights are on but the motor is not running, depress the gas pedal all the way to the floor, keep the pedal there for 30 seconds and the transmission will reset to the original factory settings (it will "unlearn" the adaptive settings).
1. Put key in the ignition
2. Click on the Start button without having your foot on the accelerator. At this point the lights on the dash will all light up.
3. Push the accelerator to the floor and hold it for about 30 seconds. For me at about 20 seconds I heard a very faint sound. This is the reset sound. Don't worry if you don't hear it. Just keep your foot on the pedal for about 30 seconds.
That's it. Now start the car and test it out. For me the acceleration from a stand still was much improved. I now don't feel like I need to drive in DS mode all the time.
