So I have just completed the installation of my extended storage rails in my X6 and what a pig of a job it was!
The kit did not include instructions but I had a good idea what i had to do thanks to some much appreciated advice from X5Sport. So half the boot dismantled in the garage and the wife walks in and says 'why do you always have to break things? You've only had it for two weeks!'. Cheek of the woman, not one broken clip and no bits left over, can't be bad. Thank goodness for my auto trim tool kit.
Anyway, while I had the boot in bits I thought I would run a power feed from the rear fuse board to power up my Pogo Alert + GPS camera detector. So I ran a cable under the boot side panels, under the rear seats and under the drivers side sill trims to the front foot well. I then popped off the drivers side dash end panel and brought the cable into the cavity. I then located the Pogo unit on top of the dash and routed the power feed down between the dash and 'A' post into the cavity. I then found and earth point to connect my 12v socket to and connected it up. That was one end done. Then back to the boot to find a spare 12v switched supply. Bugger! Would you believe all the spares are permanent live!! So plan B, tap in to the boot 12v power socket and jobs a good un.
So to finish off I wrapped the Pogo 12v charger and cabling in foam wrap, secured it in the dash cavity and refitted the end trim. The GPS unit powered on and off with ignition and worked a treat. Now the down side, the GPS unit seems to be interfering with my DAB radio. If I power the unit up I lose the DAB, power it off DAB returns. Is nothing every straight forward? So hopefully it's just a case of relocating the power adapter somewhere else under the dash, if not then back to square one.
So the ups - I now have adaptive storage so now more shopping thrown around the boot.
and the downs - I have to pull the dash apart and rewire the GPS. >:(

Impressive! I hope that after all that you get good use out of the new rails. Must admit I specced the rails but have yet to use them - the pram stops stuff sliding around!

Re: Ups and downs
Sorry to read the 'up' has had a 'down' to go with it.
I do use mine quite a lot, but the pram will no doubt act as a 'luggage container' in due course.....I didn't add the elastic acted belt, just the two rails and four loops.
