Insurance : Laugh or cry?

It is insurance time once again.
Last year I went on a multicar policy with Admiral, as they were by far the cheapest.
This year, the premium had gone up by more than I liked, so I started trawling, and Direct Line came in at £200 less than Admiral, so I thought that I would give them a call to see what they could do.
That was when the fun started. We went through all of the details, and he then asked me if I had made any claims this year.
Earlier this year, I had just driven out of Enfield Pageant in my Focus RS, and a nice young lady decided to use the back of it to stop her Fiat.
She admitted liability, mind you it would have been difficult, as I was stationary in traffic at the time, and her Insurers covered everything directly, so I didn't need to put my hand in my pocket at all.
Mr Admiral man then proceeded to tell me that this would put up my premium!
I obviously asked why as it was in no way my fault. He proceeded to tell me that he had a crib sheet on why, and basically in the eyes of Admiral, if I have had an accident, irrespective of whether it was my fault or not, they believe it means I am more likely to make another claim as I drive at busy times!
Absolutely bonkers. Needless to say I am now going with Direct Line.

I found swift to be the cheapest and even cheaper putting my misses on, whom has no NCB as only young/driving a couple of years, figure that!

Dan't get me started - typically British insurance rip off in a big way.
If we want to bend statistics like that, I know another one: 1 in 2 people in the world are Chinese, I am not, so therefore you are.
That is how insurance statistics are made - purely based on cr*p.

Insurance is a scam. I write to the Ombudsman once, but never got a reply. I work colleague used to park her car on the road (half on pavement) while her drive was being done. She insured her car that to park on road. After the drive was complete, she called back up to update them and they told her it would be £180 MORE to ensure her car. She was furious and said she was next having a garage done. they told her that the premium would again go up, and garages attract thieves, on expensive cars are garaged.
I have a Honda Civic 1.6 with Liverpool Victoria, and when I asked for a quote to ensure the X5, I was told £6000. !!! WTF! So I went with the More Than Company - £1000.
The key to get the best - hunt around! And if you use a comparison site ( Money supermarket e.g.), when you get the quote, call the company direct and say you want to cut the middle man out, how can they help. Worked a few times for me.
Good Luck!

So your premium is going up because you DIDN'T make a claim.
Brilliant (!)

Exactly.
To be fair to the guy from Admiral, he knew it was wrong, but just had to give me the company spiel.
The guy from Direct Line confirmed that they did not follow that policy!

Our house policy went up some years ago because we asked if we could claim, had an inspector out who decided the problem wasn't covered by the policy.
The policy still increased as a result of an enquiry!
We moved our cover needless to say!

I would just like to speak to one of their board members, and ask them to justify something like that.
It is completely outrageous.

garages attract thieves
Classic.
And leaving your car on the road is making it easier to get towed away by thieves, used as a spares shop or maliciously damaged by passing pith heads

Well my insurance was renewed last week, get this, it came down. First time since a claim 2 yrs ago, to the grand total of £23.
It was just a renewal letter and tbh I could not be arsed to mess with sites and ring around.

thats the best i think, even better than not claiming because it was covered by the other party

I've just renewed my insurance with Admiral but only after challenging them why it was £100 cheaper with Elephant who are part of the same group - EUI Insurance.
The sales guy was able to access my Elephant quote via the Admiral system and do a price match.
What really made me cross was that when I said I had a child under 16 they upped the premium by £45. As I told the guy, she's only 2 and can't drive!
Suppose that's just the farce behind some of the insurance premium calculations and risks.

I was told some years back that time of day, day of month, which quarter we're in makes a difference. I regularly get a new quote from my insurer and try to start a new policy. It doesn't work every time, but it has more often than not. It gets a 'new policy' discount and I keep my NCD. When they ask for confirmation of the number of years NCD, I tell them to look on their own system, print one and add it to the file. Saves postage.
And apparently insurance premiums are coming down......judging from what you folks are reporting that doesn't seem to be the truth!

I'm not surprised at all as exactly the same happened to me this year. My premium is an extra £125 a year due to an idiot leaving his handbrake off his work van and it rolled down the road into the back of my neighbours car (which in turn bumped into the back of the X5).
And that increase was across the board on confused.com for all the insurance companies. I tried 2 quotes, 1 with the non fault claim and 1 without. All premiums went up by a minimum £125..... :'(
The thing is, by law (I believe) you have to declare any accident you are involved in, so you are screwed either way.
