That was one h3ll of a long way to fall!!  The view must be something else though.....not many people get to see the Earth from above 120,000 feet.

Just watched it live - he's either brave or mental (and I know which way I'd bet!)

Well done though.

Nerves on edge viewing that live............tumbling, breathing noise increasing then stopping, visor misting.

Not as as nervous to view as watching our eldest daughter tandem freefall but edge of the seat stuff.

According to the news he made 833.9mph - or Mach 1.24 for those that care - on the way down.  If his visor heater hadn't failed he'd have broken more records.  Even Youtube managed to stream it live to more than 8 million people!!  Didn't take long to come down again though!!  What a ride though..

The other thing that amazed me was just how big those balloons get once at altitude!!  That one was massive - but looked much smaller at ground level.  I hope it 'deflated safely' otherwise that could give an airliner a teensy little surprise as it came down again!!  :drive:

Why would he have broken more records if his heater dint fail, he will have to try harder next time.
But it was some thing like 50yrs since the last record, so would have expected him to brake every recorded going.
Technology been well advanced since the 60's.

Did he have audio contact with the ground team? They could have told him "pull the cord now" as he did not seem to know.

The visor heater prevents the visor misting inside and freezing outside and believe me freefalling , or any flying without visual reference is not fun .
The spin probably happened as a result of losing sight of reference points which at that altitude would require immense skill to co-ordinate in any case .
He will be high on adrenalin for a while after that for sure .
Well done that man .
blue skies .

That`s one small step for a groover
one giant leap for weeny kind

he had audio contact with mission control but it turned out to be hardly anything audible, except they heard him saying that the visor was totally misted.

i missed this live though damn!!

great achievement!

can't wait for a detailed programme on ng or discovery..
