Hi all,
I am a little confused as to my x5 having a tv or not..

I have a 55 reg X5 and the computer screen in the dash does not say television anywhere on it.
I also have rear screens in the headrests and every now then when i turn these on (and this is only on the rear screens NOT the front screen) i get a preaf bit of tv but only a second or so.
Now on the front screen when i change from say reverse to drive i get a blue screen pop up for a second or so with what i think may be tv related, i have enclosed the picture of what comes onto the screen so please look and let me know what you think ?

Also i belive i have read somewhere that my year of X5 would have had a digital tv tuners fitted as standard, would one of these be fitted to mine if it does not show any option to select television ?

What does the tuner look like ? and where would its location be ?  that way i may be able to see if its there or not.

Any info from you clued up chaps on here would be great.

Is the SatNav DVD unit plugged in? That screen shouldn't be there unless its missing or gone wrong?

Yes the DVD sat nav is all plugged in and working.
Is that blue screen something to do with the sat nav then ?

When did you last retune your TV?  All Freeview channeling was updated recently as the last UK mainland analogue service was switched off a week or so back.  A new EPG is due for release next week I think.  Try a retune and see what happens.  And that screen is the Freeview type so you should have digital.

But there is nothing on my screen in the front to say I have television !! So I can't access a menu to try and tune

Puzzled as Reply 1 shows the TV tuning menu ???

Anyone been playing with a scanner and turned it off?  Otherwise as Sanj says it might be busted.  I thinks it's in the boot by the battery.  See if there's any water in there too...

I'll have a look in the boot tomorrow if the rain ever stops !! I have just ordered a scanner so I might be able to check to see if its been turned off !!
Does anyone know if the tv tuner is directly by the battery or in one of the side panels in the boot ?

There's no sign that your car has had a reversing camera fitted at any time is there?  That's the only reason I can think why changing gear might bring up a tv signal.

The tuner is by the battery, under the cover beneath the boot floor.  Someone will link a pic soon I'm sure.

Sanj has some pics I am sure......the tv module is under the tin hat in the boot near the battery. That screen looks like the tv tuning screen that pops up.    BMW didn't do digital tuners, they are technically hybrid tuners from 2005 on - ie analogue and digital. That screen gives the impression you might have a hybrid tuner tucked away in the boot - the digital picture is very good if your reception is spot on but otherwise its rather hit and miss.

I have had a bit of a rummage about today and found that there is a pair of wires that have been cut off and tucked away behind the rear bumper, i found these by removing the plastic panel where the tow bar would go. This looks to me like the kind of wire for a rear view camera. And every time i go into reverse the screen in the dash goes blank.

Right i have still not had a chance to remove the wheel in the boot and have a look yet as i have been a tad busy with the birth of my new daughter  :beer2:  Only 11lb 5ozs (my other half says it was hard work !!)

BUT,

I turned on the rear head rest screen today and inserted my key into the ignition and turn it round till the lights came on, and the TV screens both lite up with a TV chanel !!! No sound though !! I even then put on my sons wireless headphones and still no sound   I get nothing on the front screen to do with TV at all. And it only come on for a few seconds !! I have to then turn the key off and turn ignition on again and the pictures are back.........and then gone.

This is now doing my head in  :judge:
