Hi guys I thought I would Intrude into your section to ask your advice.
Does anyone know if the X5 and X3 electric folding/heated mirror are the same or even use the same motor.
Finding parts for an X3 (E83) seems to be an impossible task.
I have stripped the mirror and the printed ribbon is burnt out where it enters the motor so not an easy fix, I guess there was an overload issue.
Many thanks in advance.

If you can get a part number go on realoem.com and do a part number search, it will tell you every model bmw that part is fitted too, if you havnt got a part number again, go on realoem and put in all your car details, find the part , get the part number and go back to the home screena nd do the search by part number, then bookmark realoem as its a excellent website for anyone wil any bmw

Tbh it will be highly unlikely you find the same part number is being used across the ranges for things like mirrors. Mirrors are sold as complete units apart from the mirror glass and covers, so bases will be different just to start with. What you will need to do is try and find out if the same motor (with wiring) is used in any other model to see if you can purchase a secondhand mirror to strip down. Ribbon connection wiring isn't used in the E53.

E53 & E83 mirrors are a different shape & size and given the fact they were built on different continents too, it's unlikely they'll be identical.

I'm sure you could fix the ribbon, just be careful with the soldering iron. Anything is possible

Had a check, your right on this one raj, but its often well worth checking as there's all sorts of parts that you would never suspect shared accross the model range and also spanning a lot of years
