Door Protection Stips

So the X goes in for some paint correction and that means the doors will be like new.

Where the car is parked i have brick walls either side, so I would need some sort of door protection. No matter how careful I've been, there's always been the odd occasion where I've messed up!

I'm not a big fan of these door protection strips but do you guys have opinions or links to some half decent ones, considering mine isn't black (grey). Or even some other options - some know I like my towels but they won't work here... ::)

Hi Sanj had same prob in my garage and so got those garden kneely pads from aldi at 99p each.

They are about 50 mm deep and about 300mm by 450 mm and I stuck them to wall with bonding tube stuff. I have got 5 on each side so covers different heights lengths of doors or different parking options, give good cushioning better than carpet I had before.

Now every time open door i am sure i have no marks, and its green at least in colour,

Thats what I'd do too- put protection on the wall rather than the car. You don't want to detract from the looks of the car with bump strips! I guess there are probably some sort of horizontal strips that can be screwed to the wall- probably have to do at 2 heights as the front and back doors would have different contact points on the wall.

I went for that D shaped plastic conduit that's cheap on length. The D shape can be unhinged to allow screwing to the wall then clipped it back down. The hollow D shape allows wall distance and bounce

I tried the oval stuff but had to drill 2 holes to let the screw in so as not to protrude....didn't like that

The oval stuff has done 3 winters now

Now you see, you all think the car goes into a garage...

It sits recessed between what used to be a garage, the side of my house and the side of the neighbours, like a car port but without a roof.

When I had the garage (now a playroom) it was carpeted.

I don't think I have anything aesthetic to use......

Well you could try a horizontal length of the rubber strip used to cover cables across walkways to prevent people tripping perhaps?

Use this stuff and stick it to the walls? A bit of Gripfill works wonders.

You could carpet the doors and then save on the cost of the respray...lol

Seriously though paaji, what about using the ventureshield paint protection stuff down the edge of the door? It's that rubbery invisible film that is used on the rear wings of the E70 to stop the stone chips.

I had it on the front bumper of my R32 and it was superb.

Why not use one of those invisible protection film that is used to protect your paint all around? I know toyota uses them on door handles and corners of the doors as you would like to use, on US spec cars

i have thought about fitting a line of used cycle tube along walls.. should work very well actually. issue is i have to do it on my neighbours as well as i park in a shared drive

until then, i have threatened the whole family with life.. if they don't open the doors with care?

Need a good solution for a grey X. If it was black, no issue but I have grey.

Clear protective film will never protect against an inadvertent open against the wall, there's no give on that, the paint will dent under the film...

I need a barrier, hence the strip option thought, unless you guys know of anything else... No matter how much I want the family to be careful, they'll always be that one time they or I mess up...

That D shaped plastic trunking I mentioned is bolted to our outside brick wall....it's soft and bounces due to shape deflection. Creates an easy stand off from the brick...can't fault it. Eve if door rides up as you dismount and remove weight the plastic aint gonna wear the door edge

Few screws and rawl flugs....done...no screws on show as the trunking is hinged and clips together. Fllip the top....screw on wall flip down....job done

Hinged and click lock lid for easy fixing
Width across flat surface - 30mm
Height of half round - 15mm
