BMW Sevice advice

I wondered if you guys had any thoughts on this.
I need a service. Not sure which one of hand but my cars done 60k, its a 58 plate X5 3.0sd. I was thinking main dealer but with that mileage is it worth it any more on a 58 plate car. Would it affect my resale hugely not to have a main dealer stamp?
Also what should I be paying for a service on my car. Would be interested to know what people have paid on e70 services as I know when I had my M3 if you called around main dealers prices did vary a bit.
Thanks in advance for your input folks.

My car's a 57 plate 3.0d with c70k on the clock...It has a main dealer history and I was quoted the following for my service and MOT which is due next month:
MOT @ £54.85
Oil and Micro Filter Service @ £363.80
Vehicle Servce Check @ £144.00
I've looked around for some recommended indi's instead and will be getting the above done for just shy of £250.
For me, I did not think the main dealer history would add that much to the car's resale value. Of course, I could be completely wrong

If they're using 'approved' parts then TBH it probably won't make much difference. What you might miss out on are any software/firmware updates if the Indy doesn't have the tools or access to the updates etc.

Thanks guys. All good points and worth considering. I'll call BMW tomorrow and see what they say and if there are any updates available etc. Thanks again.

You'll most likely need the 'comfort upgrade' anyway as your car is inside the 'affected' group. The Dealer really will be the only place for that little freebie as I can't see BMW letting anyone else have access to the code changes.
You might find that the upgrade needs others applied at the same time in order to keep everything at the same 'version' and it might all be free.....

Are you refering to the security problem as highlighted by the BBC recently? If so I have just had the upgrade done last week. They had the car for about 2 hours and did it whilst I waited. I assume it's all now secure again. Well I bloody hope so !!

You may consider that you would be more likely to receive a 'good will' fix for any future fault from BMW if you continue to have your car serviced with them.
What would you do if the engine blew up tomorrow?

I know what you mean but I've never really received any good will from my main dealer. They like to charge instead !
If the engine blew up tomorrow I'd claim under the warranty I got when I bought the car.

No I'll hold on to my car for now thanks.
A bit of a strange question to ask. You don't know what cars we have, or the spec etc. Are you just buying random cars?

Lol. Had a couple of bad experiences so looking for a genuine, well maintained X5. As long as car is A1, can always sort the spec later

Good luck finding a nice car. There a plenty out there, but finding the right spec is tricky as a standard X5 is pretty basic.
Re sorting the spec at a later date, you'll need a lot of DIY skills to fit a panoramic sunroof to a car that doesnt have one !!
