4.4i sitting low on one side

Post by rjkc600 » Thu Sep 27, 2012 4:26 pm

Can anyone help me, my 4.4i sits lower on the nearside rear than the offside.  id say 2-3cm difference, quite noticeable on a flat surface.

I have air suspenion at the rear and standard shocks/springs at the front.

I have no errors on ECU for suspension.

Cheers chaps!

Hi I'm not sure but I would say raj would probably have a good idea on prob, but it maybe a leaking airbag.

is your car covered by a warranty then it may be worth getting into your locale dealer or indy.

however it may be worth having a look at this recent post as also has a link to what Raj has found and replaced  on his car

Does the level correct itself at all? If not,  I would have a look at the level sensor on the faulty side. They have a habit of breaking, so would be giving a false signal to the level controller.

Rusty- will if self level only once I've turned on the ignition or started engine?

I haven't looked for that so will check it out.

Ignition on but no need to start, you should hear the pump running and the rear should level itself. Give it a try and let us know what happens.

It could be one of two things. As mentioned above by Russ, it could be as simple as the level sensor on that side has failed or it is a leaking airbag. If it inflates to correct height when the car is started then its most likely the airbag is leaking and the air pump will be working harder to keep it inflated. If it remains at that height then it would lead to the sensor being the issue.

Let us know how you get on as I do have some secondhand components still.

Ok guys. I'm pretty sure it's still low with engine on. I don't hear any pump or any air leaking sounds.

Where is the level sensor?

When I say pretty sure, I haven't actually measured it yet but will do tomorrow.

Sensor is attached to the lower arm. It's a little black box with a small plastic arm attached a small drop link off that bolted to the lower arm.
