Anyone have experience with Vredstein Wintrac Xtreme?

I want something good in the snow without sacrificing too much handling.

Thx!

I bought a set last year but no real snow to test them out. They are however one of the highest rating winter tyres out there. In all cold conditions last year I found them excellent, plenty of grip and very little tread wear over the winter months.

I bought them for the E70 as well, but not used them yet. Good balance between price and quality I would say.

They are very good.  I have a set for sale on 17" rims for the E53 x5 as I no longer own mine

Ive got a set of them, got them online from TYREMEN site, brilliant in snow, never even flashes the traction control light, couldnt get it stuck anywhere, left discos and RR standing, or sliding ! even.
Very quiet, excelent in the wet, no signs of wear.
I put them on my original 19" rims, only costs 10 quid a corner for fit and ballance, will be putting them back on soon.
Tyremen sent them to my local tyre fitting shop, delivered 2 days after ordering, good price too.
Highly reccomended.

To save me looking in case you have listed else where, how much are you asking for the wheels and tyres?

I have these tyres on staggered 19" wheels and they worked well in deep snow (several feet) in the Alps last Xmas. Was able to drive up a steep switchback road with no loss of traction. So yes, recommended. Think I bought from camskill and got them fitted at my local tyre fitters.

I ordered a set of Wintrac Xtremes yesterday in 255/50/19!

I am very excited to try them out.  They will be replacing:

Continental Contact 4X4 SSR Runflats

The Continental run flats are the only tire I have tried on my X so I am very very excited to try out the Vredesteins.  Although I absolutely love my 5.0, I have a hunch that the current tires are kinda mediocre.  Surprisingly enough I can't really find any reviews of my current tire to see how others have liked them.  I also just don't like all season tires as I see them as "glass half empty" instead of "glass half full" tires.  I mean, they aren't really excellent at anything.  I am a big believer that in order to wring every bit of excellence out of my auto purchase I need to buyt the best tire.  It has always seemd silly to me to pay (for example) $50,000 for a BMW and then have it handle (perhaps) only 85% as well as it could by saving $500 on tires.  In my example I am losing 15%b of the ultimate handling of my $50,000 vehicle by saving $500.  Makes no sense.

Anyway, I think the Vreds will be  a great experiment!  :)

Has anyone put 285 wide winter rears on? I have some staggered 19 inch m sport wheels to use for winter but unsure to go for smaller rears or stick with the original size. We usually get quite deep snow each winter.

Thanks,

Michael.

I have 285 tyres on my X6 for the winter.....fitted to style 258 alloys.  I use Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow RFT tyres.  These are one of the OEM standard winter wheel/tyre sets for the X6.  Not had any (proper) deep snow but used them for the last two winter seasons with no problems, and they actually give a better ride than the summer set.

Summer wheels are 20" with Dunlop Sportmaxx SP RFTs.

Thanks Richard, I think I may go for the 285's as it's not much more for them and I'm getting a discount from my insurance over they winter months down sizing to the 19's.

Cheers

Michael

I also went for 285 rears as wheels are staggered, haven't had any decent snow to try them out yet.
