Hi all,

I am a new X5 E70 owner of some 6 weeks and it's great, so chuffed with it and such a great family car. Now before I go on too much, today I found some damage to the trim inside the cabin. I wil get a photo up as soon as my iPad decides to comply!

I am still shocked and wondering if anyone else has come across this.

Thanks,

Myd

I think the answer is in your first photo.  Do a google search for 'magic tree dash damage' and you'll see what I mean.

Magic trees are nasty little things, full of chemicals that will in time, melt your car.

Glad you are happy with the E70, but where are the rest of the pics?

By the way, welcome :)

As Rusty says, the air freshener has solvents for the 'pong' which are also solvents for the plastic trim.

It does say on tha packaging for most air fresheners not to let them touch any surface, this is why.

It was a harsh lesson to find out how nasty these little blighters are, but I do feel a letter to the manufacturer brewing..... O:-)

Still, 6 weeks on and I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, it's an Msport 3.0 with heated seats, HUD, I drive, etc. How cool is the steering wheel park after you turn the ignition off  :))

The weekend car wash and clean ritual is now at least 2hrs on the X5 and I'm finding something new to clean every week so far, yesterday saw all the tar spots on the arch inner trims removed and all alloy inside degreaser and cleaned  :P

Its already towed my race car shuttle some 200 miles and I got 29mpg at a steady 70mph on the motorway with cruise on, great news.

So if anyone can suggest a suitable iPhone integration kit then I would be pleased to hear. Now for a pic:

Do you mean BMW iPhone 4 snap in cradle? If so, I have one for sale if you are interested.

I mean a kit to integrate the iPhone 4 that allows you to see and choose track data from your controller. I only have the AUX port with no USB. I wiuld be happy to swap out the CD music system .... ::)

That's one of the few things I don't like and I'm surprised there isn't an iDrive option to switch it off. It would be easier to extract my knees from under the wheel if it remained in the same position - I do have feakishly long legs though.

It's always slightly disconcerting to start the engine and drive off whilst the steering is still moving towards you, back into position.
