Water butt filter?

I know we have talked a lot about using water from rain water butts to assist the DI vessel and help stop water spots on the cars, I have the vessel/water butt/Karcher pump and filter for the outlet side of the butt, but I'm wondering if it's worth trying to fit some sort of filter to the inlet of the butt to reduce the amount of debris entering in the first place.
I tried the pump earlier just to see how good it was, it certainly pushed the water out, but I did notice that the in- line filter I have started to build up rather rapidly and thus reduced the flow rate quite a lot.
I will empty the butt out completely and give it a good wash out, and the add some treatment to try and reduce any debris in there, but would still like to filter the incoming somehow.
Maybe a visit to the other halfs stockings drawer is in order, hope I dont get caught in there, lol.
