Post by rjkc600 » Wed Sep 12, 2012 6:06 pm

Guys

I understand Jason ay BW chiptune does gearbox remaps.

Has anyone had one done?

My car is a 5 speed auto 4.4i pre facelift.  What did the remap do?

Cheers! :D

you need a engine remap to loose the take off delay and make the car alot more sharper to drive on the 4.4i
on the gear box we do software up dates to help with the gear changes

jason.  So an engine remap will sort out the responsiveness issue on the early 5 speed? i though it would be gearbox related.

Perhaps PM me a price for remap if you can.

The remap will cost 250

The software update on the e53 where to help the mpg as the gear box holes on to gears for longer than needed this was more for the diesels

Dealer Software updates we do cost 95 per Ecu
When we do the remap I can check and see if there are any software updates due for your car and if you want me to update them I can before I do a remap

It's a special  gear box update help fix the tipping problem as it picks the lower gear just before standstill

Yes we can have a look and if there is software for your car we can reprogram the gear box

Care to elaborate on this one Jason please?

The wifes X5 does this...a lot less and a lot less harsh since it was re=programmed by our indy

But it still happens. Is this some "Jason tuned" update or the application of a known BMW update?

If you are at the meet tomorrow I can have a look at what your Indy up dated
As you have to enter a different hardware and software manually

If you just go a do a update then it will up date to a standard software not for this gear box problems

I had Jason update my gearbox software when i first got the clunking problem. Mine was pretty bad to start off with and the update helped but did not completely cure the problem. I guess that's the best we can hope for without going for a new gearbox.

I'm at the other end of the country (manchester) so I wont be at the meet unfortunately

He used (I think) one of those better known diagnostic kits/upgrade tablets (not sur of the make but I've seen it...2 handles and blue)

My guess it was a full reset/learn but it is a guess.

He pointed me to another garage that specialises in auto boxes but I've yet to visit them. I somehow imagine that the change points have to be tinkered with to stop or mask it happening.

Shame I live north ...ahh well

Mine has been at the dealers today as its still under AUC warranty. All they`ve done is reset the adaptations, haven`t driven it yet but I`m not expecting a miracle !

I had that done, it does make it feel more responsive for a short time, but soon relearns my slow 'fuel saving' driving style, and goes in to lethargic mode.

It feels like my transmission is half asleep most of the time, i have to punish the car for a a few minutes to wake it up again.

The feeling of lurching gear change thats being described has happened in every BMW auto I've owned, and i've had 4 previous to the X5, they all had that lurching.  I think its more noticeable in the X5 as the car is high up and heavier.

[/quote]Yes I did get this done and no it has not cured the problem.
The gearbox feels a bit different and does not clunk all the time but still does it occasionally.
It is a shame the X5's seem to do this as it spoils what is othewise a superb car.
