Hi folks..

Got a call from dealership to book car in for some software update. Afaik it's something to do with locking...Is this anything to do with the recent related thefts?

Not heard anything yet for my 2011 X6.  It's certainly possible.  There's no VOSA safety recall on the website list, so could be anything.  BMW GB were still refusing to acknowledge the issue just two months ago.

You'll have to ask the Dealer in case others on here need to start badgering their Dealers.  Mine knew nothing of a BMW fix last weekend even though BMW had told the Press they were releasing a 'fix' for the theft issue 'in August'.

Perhaps they're going to turn off the ODB port too when the car is locked, or at least put a PIN on it.

Interesting to say the least..... . Let us know more when you find out please....

Absolutely......

The list of cock-ups was.....
OBDII port easy to get at and remains powered.
No 'break glass' sensor
'blind spot' for interior alarm close to the A-pillar
No security code to access car systems.....
Car key System virtually unchanged since 2004.....

Muppets!!

Got the same call. Car will have software update for 'security' issue next week. I was told it has something to do with electric windows. The recall notice is quite enigmatic - it's certainly not obvious if this is for the OBD issue.

I didn't get any call yet. Should I call dealer myself - if yes do you know if I can find any info about this on BMW website somewhere?

No call for me either.

My car is in for some warranty work next week. I'll let you know if they do anything.

Been in touch with my local dealer- they know nothing about this yet!? Maybe it's being rolled out gradually or is there a specific recall number?

I have a 2011 E70 40d but heard nothing from my dealer so far...

Left a message with my Dealer.  Will wait and see what response is forthcoming.

Mine goes in next Thursday.  Software Update to what has been described as the 'Comfort Pack'.  I don't have comfort access, but it's still going in.  All day job apparently.

Methinks this is (or may be) the key issue.  The Dealer was being somewhat cagey about it.  That of course could be because the phone drone didn't know because BMW have kept quiet, or has been told to be evasive.  Take your pick.

Interesting, if this is to do with thefts I wonder how far back they will go, just those in proper warranty eg less than 3 years or all cars affected?

Mine going in Monday. Called the local garage and they knew all about the issue. Interesting
