Voice Activation Retrofit

Hi all,

I'm a new member, having bought a 59 plate X5 (35d xdrive).  Just wanted to say hi and also to ask a question about retrofit options.

1.  It doesn't have voice activation.  Does anyone know if there is anyone that can fit this for me and how much it will cost? (I'm in Kent, but willing to travel a bit)

2.  iphone 4S connection - there is no USB interface, so I can't use the USB cable.  I've seen a kit that connects into the CD changer port, but have a 6 CD changer with the car and do not want to lose that.  Basically I want to be able to see and control the Ipod via the idrive.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Hello and very warm welcome!

I need pics! You may know I have issues!?! I need pics!!! Of the car.

Q1 - sorry I can't help but you will no doubt need new bits coded to the car!

Q2 - Dension Gateway 500 to help with full control and the fibre optic setup you might have.

Oh and  :camera:

I think that this may only apply to 2010+ cars with the CIC in stead of earlier CCC entertainment system, but my 2012 5 Series allows bluetooth playback of music from an iPhone. LIke I say, I suspect it won't be available on your car but it might be worth having a loon in the manual.

Your right, I'd already looked into that option and it applies to 2010 onwards only.  Mine doesn't have that function.  Thanks for the reply though!

I believe it just needs activating. All the necessary bits are in-place. Only a dealer will be able to do it.

I wouldn't worry about trying to retro-fit the voice activation. I paid for the option on my 2011 X5 and it's utterly useless. You have to learn the precise word to say at each menu stage and have to navigate through the menus rather than going straight to what you want. Its recognition is also very poor.  I find trying to use it just winds me up so now I don't bother.

I used it a lot on my 335i, really miss it on my X5, very useful to bring sat nav screen back to perspective view and change audio source and stations on FM
