Another X6 Newbie
Another X6 Newbie
Hello There,
I moved up to an X6 from a 5 Series Touring.
I have to say that without a doubt, the X6 is the best car I have driven, and I get a buzz every time I get into it.
This time, I broke a rule that I made many years ago, and bought a black car. It does look good when it is clean, but it doesn't stay clean for long!
I have bought a snow foam lance to help clean it, and what a load of fun that is to use, has anyone else tried one?
All the best.
Mark

Re: Another X6 Newbie
Welcome aboard. And another member of the X6 fraternity. Our numbers increase slowly and surely...
Which version are you now the proud owner of?
Snow Foam is indeed an....well art. I have one from Ultimate Finish (other models available -Ed) for my Karcher and have found I need the valve fully closed before I get a good thick foam from it.
Some in here are very much into detailing....and can give you tips on what you need and how to use it. Be warned...as you have a black car, cleaning might just become an obsession!!

Richard I went for the 30D, as I wasn't prepared to wait for a 40. Having said that, I don't regret it, as it is still pretty fast.

Welcome and congrats on the X.
I too came from a 5, but an E60 as opposed to an E61, and also to an E53 (can only dream of an X6...lol).
Black is stunning when clean but a pain to keep that way. You've started right with the purchase of the foam lance and you should stick to the 2 bucket method to assist also. Try coating it in something like Collinite or Zaino Grande Finale to help keep the X clean for longer.

Raj,
Thanks for the info.
Had the clay out today, as unfortunately, the car got divebombed by a vulture, as most of the rear quarter was covered in bird poop, and it ate into the clear coat. Got a lot of it out, but it looks as though I am going to have to put up with two blemishes.
Just trying to figure out if I need to do anything to the clayed areas before I polish it.
I have ordered some Zymol HD clean, and am thinking of going down the Glasurit route, as that does seem to have a pretty good write-up.
Of course I could go down the Royale route, but even though it is refilled for life, £8,300 for a pot of wax is a it steep.
I saw one particular Customer rating write up that was a corker. It was something like I had a jar given to me for my birthday, and used it on my Bugatti Veyron!
I would mind getting that for my birthday, but I wouldn't mind having the money for a Veyron either!

Nah, a Veyron is only an expensive Audi TT.... :spiteful:
The clearcoat is a little 'sensitive' on these cars. I have already had mine completely repolished by BMW under warranty. I don't use anything fancy, just Autoglym HD wax. I might (funds ever permitting now, go for a Swissvax BMW wax. Not that I would say no to an £8,300 - refilled for life - wax either of course.
I do use water from a DI Vessel to 'clean' the water supply - cue pvr & Raj - as these remove the water spots and the cars do seem to stay cleaner and shinier for far longer after washing this way and then using a wax. We did a 'Group Buy' of these things as per this long but at times useful thread which will extoll the DIV virtues and experiences of owners. Defo a good purchase that...

Like the review quote but usually when you can afford a Veyron you usually have a detailer on the books too...lol.
As for the bird poo...bugger but only option for that is a machine polish. I'm planning on detailing mine over the next week or two (will try and do a write-up but HERE's a mates M3 Detailed Thread I did). Where abouts you located Mark?
Once clayed, you can seal it with something like Carlack and then apply your wax, etc on top of that to provide a decent protection for your (car) bodywork.
Hope that helps.

Re: Another X6 Newbie
Using snow foam is the way to go on the Black X
it should save a lot swirling as opposed to the old regular washing.

Re: Another X6 Newbie
Raj,
I am in Hemel Hempstead.
I might have to try that Carlack.
I think that I need to get a Hawk so the birds poop themselves before they get over my car, as it got done again yesterday!
I also need some advice on getting rid of some swirlies on the drivers door. There was a problem with the paint when I picked it up, so they repaired it, unfortunately, it is now a mass of swirlies, that I would like to remove.

Saw your post in the other thread about location. If you weren't too far I'd tell you to pop round and we could see what can be done. Tbh though the only way to sort the paintwork properly is to machine polish it. Then just maintain it with a proper wash routine so as to minimise the swirlies from re-appearing.
