Heaters

Now this may be a daft question but.........
The heater control in the centre console, mine reads 60f. Can you alter this ? Like to 50 or 40 etc

Next to the display you will see red & blue arrows on the temperature switches press to adjust up & down

If it is in fahrenheit than 60 might be the lowest temp on the screen

Yes - lowest Celsius is 16, so conversion is almost same in Fahrenheit.

The up button makes it go up. But it won't go down below 60f at all ?

16C is 60F. That is the lower limit the BMW system can work to. You cannot go lower on the Climate Control. My X6 and our Mini Countryman are both the same. No lower than 16C.
Lower temps will cause icing in parts of the system and that will cause flooding as the water generated by the cooling system cannot then drain.

The usual way to increase the cooling capability - assuming the control system and hardware (pipes, compressor, evaporator, condenser etc) will tolerate it - is to increase the amount (weight) of refrigerant (R134a) in the system. This means the system has to operate at higher pressures and that may not be considered safe in the UK Vehicle Construction Regulations
