On my way home to night I popped into the MacDonalds Heathrow drive through on the bath Rd next door to the Radisson Edwardian hotel
Got to the end till and saw a homeless person so asked if he would like some think to eat
He said yes any think thanks and could he have a cup off hot coffee
Ask the manager if I could have an extra meal for the homeless person and got a reply ''no you will have to go around the drive through and que again''
Which I replied ''why i have added extra to my order may times before here at this last window''
He said too many cars waiting,I looked and there was 2 cars behind me
So I said ok I will leave the money here can he pick it up
The manager said ''NO''
The other manager (well they where both wearing white shirts)was also listening to our conversation
I said sorry to the homeless person for not being able to buy him a hot drink and food and give him a fiver and he said he would ask someone who may walk in to buy food with the money
What's the world coming to when MacDonld's will not let you by food for a homeless person who is hungy

That's disgusting really, second story like this I have heard today, wonder what it is with the jumped up little git z  in fast food places that they think they can dictate who can receive food or not........i would simply have stayed in the queue and said I was not going to move until I was served and sorry they didn't get the whole order at the microphone, but I want the following......they would soon enough have produced the order.  Have in fact done this before at a Maccy D albeit not for a homeless persons meal ..........

Just cannot believe the t osser  types that increasingly seem to be spawning on this green and pleasant isle........ :(

I take my hat off to you, not many would even think about trying to do that, unfortunately too many people think that anyone that lives on the streets is a bum or something similar, when in reality a lot have just fell on hard times, and the system has failed them.
I personally won't give to a lot of charities as we all know the majority of the money doesn't get where it's supposed to get to, but gets swallowed up by someone's expenses etc etc.
In this day and age, why should there be anyone living on the street, there's enough money out there to be able to house anyone that wants to be housed.
I'll put my soap box away now.
Well done again.

Thanks guys

I went back at 2am this morning  just after my last post
I can't stand the through of someone being hungry and not being to buy food to eat

He was sleeping on the floor with just a ripped blanket on top of him
I asked if he had any think to eat
He said he had to wait for someone he's seen before to get him some food with the fiver I gave him as most people would just walk by him and not take any notice of him trying to speak to them
He didn't want any more food so I got him a hot drink
I sat with him for 2 hours talking and got loads of odd look from people walking in and out
He seems a polite person to speak to and thanked me to for my help and spending taking time to speak to him
His names Stephen
29 years old
Lived on the streets for the last  6 year since his parents died
No belonging apart from what he wearing
Last time he slept in a bed was more that 5-6 years ago
Been sleeping out side mac's for the last 3 years
The longest conversation with person  for more than 10 mins was till now more that 4 years ago
Can't remember when he had his last had shower or bath or change of clothes
Takes him 4-3 days to save up money for a big mac from penny's people give him as he does not beg
Dose not know what day it is
He gone for 6 days with out food Before
He has sore feet and can't walk far

Just sitting with him for 2 hours you can see how people treat him, they know he's there by the way they change there direction
Its like being shit off your shoe

As he has no home address he can't get help from the government

Anyone on here know how to help him

It's a real difficult one, how far do you go to try and help someone, where are all these help the homeless people/places when you need them.
Would he take anything you were prepared to offer him, in the way of clothing etc, or would he be offended, or would it make him a target, and you for that matter.
I suppose you could just try and find him some help for starters from one of the so called charities out there, then see how it goes.
The question is how the hell this happened in the first place.
Good luck.

When you look at how much we have spent on the olympics it does make you wonder if the country is spending money wisely.

Some people live on streets through choice. I met a guy last week who carries a massive rucksack complete with overnight sleeping kit, toiletries and changes of clothes. He was clean, organised and very aware as to what charities, volunteer groups he could use to his advantage. He was articulate, intelligent & engaging in conversation.

Conversely I have met homeless folk who have issues with mental illness, substance abuse & poor personal hygiene & can be very hostile. I remember one guy approached me when with my family at a KFC & attempted to intimidate me into giving him a cigarette. The interaction ended with him, ( in front of my family), genuinely offering to stab me with a knife ..........I accordingly gave him some "life advice"  before my family & I went peacefully on our way.

Plenty of homeless folk could benefit from care & attention, however, just as with some folk with permanent homes there are good & bad amongst us so be careful out there.

Obviously most of us are totally unaware of the life journies that cause folk to end up in their current positions in life......... & I speak here for persons less fortunate whether homeless or homed.

Decent thing you did Jason  :)

I came accross a person who was not very nice in middlesbrough town centre he asked me for money very aggressively, I declined but said pick anything of the menu of the burger van we were near and ill pay, to that I got a string of abuse which included 'he couldn't get pissed on a f'in burger' and he then told me to f off, this was last year middle of the day in a busy high street, the trouble is some of them won't help themselves, so now (especially with my baby) I would litterally cross the road to avoid them!!

Sanj has given a good list, add to that the Salvation Army who run a lot of projects for the homeless.
If he has any proof of his last address the local authority from that area have a duty to house him, albeit in a hostel or b and b.
Present to neighbourhood housing office before 11am is the general modus operandi in BIrmingham, and get allocated a place in a b and b or hostel somewhere in the city, so I guess London will be very similar.

Sometimes people have mental health or criminal pasts and slip through the system, ending up on the street.

Well done for your altruistic spirit Jason, so many others in this once great country should be ashamed of themselves as to how they treat others.

To be fair & on reading shadrack refered to "some" & not all.  I like to think I am more open minded than many but the guy who threatened to knife me at KFC did so when my daughter was sat with me in her pram.

Despite my experience(s) I remain open minded but accept that one bad interaction with one bad member of one particular group can cause "some" to take steps they feel may reduce future risks.

That might be pushing it SteamyRotter, but fair play to you Jas.

I too in the past have offered food instead of money and have been colourfully rebuked.
Unfortunately it appears too often that money is wanted for vices as opposed to survival.

You would think that any genuine person struggling to make their way would be grateful of support be it food or clothing etc and the others make their own destiny.

Just last week I was at the lights and had some guy tap on the window begging for money, he was begging so politely and and nicely I felt he deserved some money.  I had no cash, just cards at the time but he gave me that look as though I was lying so i was determined to help him.

A quick scramble in the car and I managed to get a fistful of coins, 10p's and 20p's etc, must have amassed about £4 in silver coins.  I handed the whole lot over, he looked in his hand and saw that it was mostly 10p's and 20p's and what he did next I will never forget.

He looked at me in disgust then handed it all back to me and walked on to the next car, as though I had insulted him.  The cheek of it.!!!!
