Re: BMW M1 stolen in less than 3 minutes.
Looks as if there was a 'way in' via the front window/mirror area? Were they reaching for the 'unlock' button?
At least with an auto it would be harder to push - gearbox should lock in 'P'?

BMW M1 stolen in less than 3 minutes.
I was assuming being locked in park an with the electronic handbrake that it would be difficult to push but I think there is a way to release both of these. Will have to look in the manual later.
Re: BMW M1 stolen in less than 3 minutes.
I know the emergency release for the handbrake is in the boot. Perhaps the 1M doesn't have an auto so easy to push and probably has a conventional parking brake?

Re: BMW M1 stolen in less than 3 minutes.
Sure someone posted this up in another thread previously. I'm glad I still have a 'standard' style key as opposed to the new fangled 'easy steal' jobbies...lol.

In the boot where ?? E53 ??

Not on the E53 - that has a conventional parking brake. The E70/71 have an electronic parking brake and a big red handle to release it with in the event of an 'issue'. Sorry for confusion.

The big red handle in the boot is for releasing the auto box out of park to neutral to move . Which is placed under the cup holders at the gear lever . As for the electric brake can be released but key fob must be in holder but engine doesn't have to be running .
Not too sure how to release brake without key fob , prob check the manual if there is a way atall

I've seen this vid somewhere but can't remember the full facts, but off memory they are after the computer port (which is thoughtfully located in the dead spot of the alarm ultrasonics) then use the port to remotely code a new key. I am guessing the new key allows them to release the hand brake and then they push it away to avoid the noisy start up. Apologies if I saw it on here, or if I have got it wrong as like I said that's off my memory.

Re: BMW M1 stolen in less than 3 minutes.
you can buy a device for £500 that will code a key right there and then through the obd11 socket on a bmw, once the key is made just start and drive away, btw i read this and saw the video (im not a master car thief lol)

Gearbox & Electric brake release are both with the handle. Parking brake release is in the left boot compartment - release procedure was on Page 69 depending upon manual print year. Gearbox on P72.
I was talking to the Service Team today, and despite the Dealer Principal having told me the key issue has been fixed, the Service Team knew nothing about any 'fix' or software change to stop the keys being added to the cars. Seems the left and right hands still don't know what's going on!! Clueless bunch.. >:(

Re: BMW M1 stolen in less than 3 minutes.
Very old news and video this
Cars going walkabouts all over the place at the minute incl many autos so don't think that is a relief
An X6 went in broad daylight in a shopping centre!
This guy had only just put his CCTV up because he had had some strange visitors around his house. Still didn't stop them
