Update

Car Passed MOT Yesterday - Flying Colours

So all issues now sorted, unfortunately after spending just over £2,000 to get it right and sorted, I have lost interest in it.

So I have listed it on eBay with No Reserve.

Who knows in a year maybe I will be tempted to buy another.

But until then its bye bye X5.

Mixed Emotions, as I now know someone will get a cracking car with all that has been spent on it.

I only wished I had pursued the previous trader for selling me a bum car.

I wouldn't want to have sold it without it all being fixed, I have morals, the same cannot be said for AUTO CARE NORTHAMPTON who I purchased it of.

I have put it down to a bad experience.

Drove the car back yesterday from the garage and it felt wonderful, but unfortunately it has been a pain in my backside and wallet for 4-5 months.

It will be a sad day when it goes.

Tim

It's always good when it passes with no issues.

I know that cater all the trouble you've had and the money spent on it it would have been a real kick in the teeth if it had still failed.

I totally understand where you are coming from with the thought process for getting rid, but just make sure it is a sensible decision from the head and not the heart. It's just after spending all this effort and money you at least now know its all sorted and can just enjoy it.

There is no guarantee that if you buy something else you don't just end up jack at square one again with something that costs to get it right again. You can buy a brand new Aston and still have problems. Just food for thought.

I sympathise.

I had a an Alfa 166 v6. The teeth of the cambelt ripped off and I was left with a bill for £1500. I got it done purely because I loved driving it. Anyways average mpg was 16 and things just kept going wrong. The novelty of the drive wore off when things went wrong further so I got rid for a huge loss. An then got the x!

It seems a shame to get rid after having spent so much time and money but if your not buying a replacement then I guess it makes sense...

Imy - Alfa 166 - Lovely. I owned two that were absolute crackers, a 3.0 V6 Super and a 3.2 V6 Ti, both fully loaded and real joys. Yours must have been very sick though as even my 3.2 was averaging mid twenties to gallon! As with all cars though servicing is key - i learned the hard way with 24 bent valves in an Alfa 164 3.0 V6 Super that had full service history, later found out the owner scrimped refusing belt change on the crucial service :(

Tim - sorry to hear the X is going, i followed your thread with interest and concern! All the best with your sale.

Got mine MOT'd today - all ok, no advisories and a fresh 13 month ticket :)

Dougie

Mine had low miles and FSH, just a very naive first owner!

Mine was a sporto and I got 16 average as I did the school run before crawling in rush hr traffic to work! Hence why I went for the sporto over the super, but the car was in good health, I cared for it with alot of love.

3.2? Very nice! That was the one to have! Although I always preferred pre facelift in terms of looks but I think I'm in the minority.

The fuel consumption on the Alfa was the main sway point towards LPG!

Yeah the 166 3.2 Ti was very rare - Forum estimates were of only twenty UK cars.

The X5 is my first non-italian car since I was 17 - Started with Lancia then onto Alfa Romeo with a couple of fiats in the mix also

Is your X5 lpg'd? I got mine done earlier this year :)

Dougie,

As much as I loved driving the 166 it will be my first ad probably last Alfa. It was my first non German car!

As for LPG yep all the way! I bought it already converted and thoroughly enjoy only have to fill up once a week for £50 as an oppose to £85 a week for the Alfa!

I wish a v8, maybe it would have compensated for the loss of the engine notes from the Alfa v6.
I had to go for a 3l for insurance purposes, I'm still only 26 and the quotes I was getting for a v8 were astronomical!

Yeah, hoping for better insurance quotes myself this year!

I had a 147 GTA (3.2 250 bhp) prior to the X5 - My existing policy was increased from c£30 to c£50/month when I got the X5. I argued that the GTA was faster, sportier and more valuable but according to the advisor the computer said no!

When I got lpg done I then had to pay a further 25% premium on top for modification!
