If any any body can help or advice would be much appreciated.
From the rht front/back speakers while driving occasionaly the audio would go and come back along with waht sounds like associated interference. Does the X5 have an amplifer in the sytem external to the integrated Radio/nav/computer in the front dash ? I was thinking of checking the connections on the amp if there is one before running it into an audio specialist.
Cheers

Sounds like it could be your BM54 module.
There are write a few threads on here if you do a search.
Having an amp would depend on which version of stereo you have. If you have the base model then there is nothing between the radio module and the speakers, above that you should have an amp in the rear left cubby hole at the bottom.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to help further, but for now I Hth.

What year is the car Nigel?
Then Russ is right too - what speaker setup do you have.
Base setup was 6 speakers and only the RCM.
Hi-Fi Speaker Upgrade was a HK amp after the RCM and then the speakers (and you got 10 of them - look in the rear door car, do you have a mid speaker low down and crucially the tweeter in the leather near the handle - yes then you have this setup)
Then there was the all singing all dancing DSP version - with the sub too in the right rear cubby.
Regardless the RCM is common - BM24 for the cars pre 2002 with 17-pin round type or the later ones with the BM54 and 40 flat pins.
Both are repairable. But it is your RCM.

I had this recently. BM54 was on its way out eventually just with 1 rear speaker working. I got it fixed from a guy called Baris. 24 hour fix and return. IF you would like further info, inbox me. He did a good job for me.
