Low speed knocking

Hi, can anyone help with this please.
I have just been out in the x this morning and a light knocking has appeared when going round very slow corners (think housing estates or when in car parks) with a lot of lock applied.
It sounds almost like the front drivers side spring has snapped and is sort of "clicking" against itself, if that makes any sense! I have had a look and can't see anything obvious but as its got a BMW warranty it will be going in ASAP. I was just wondering if anyone has had anything similar.
I am assuming that the dealer will give my wife a courtesy car, if so what do they normally use?
Just interested as I like driving different cars.

Sounds like a CV joint. Does the clicking become more rapid if u speed up through the corner?

Thanks for the reply. No, it seems to be related to how much lock is on, so as you add more lock it knocks more. If you haven't got much lock on it isn't there at all.

It does sound like the Constant Velosity Joint on the drive shaft, the more lock you have on the more severe the noise.
X5's are prone to splitting the CV boots on the front driveshafts and loosing the grease out of the CV joints
Mine had to have 2 new boots when I bought the car, failed the MOT on them. They put it right and paid for it, I said to put new pads in when they had it stripped as they wear out pretty quick with having 2 tonnes to stop, I paid for the pads only £ 45
have a look under the x to see any signs of grease around the front CV boots

Thanks for the idea. I have just been out for a look and there doesn't appear to be a split, but I did find what appears to be old grease on the bottom of the strut where it would get flicked. I have a feeling that this is old though but it's made me think, as the paperwork says that it had two cv boots on by supplying main dealer approx two months ago. I am now wondering if wear caused by the old one failing could have been temporarily masked by the new one being packed with grease.
It's getting booked in tomorrow and i will mention the passenger side mirror which dips for reverse but then sometimes tilts straight back again and "hunts" for where it should be, but always returns to normal when taken out of reverse.
I hope the BMW warranty is good!

Just to say thanks to Macky1986 and Horizon you were totally right on the button there. I drove it today for first time since sunday and the knocking had turned into the clicking during the last few days (blame the school run!).
Anyway it went in today to the dealer to be checked and as correctly identified, it was the c.v. joint.
They said they would have to check with BMW Warranties if it was covered as its classed as a wear and tear item due to it being a constantly moving part and also due to the vehicles high mileage. I didn't think that 67k would be classed as high, but there you go.
Anyway to their credit, Coopers at Durham by the way, they got back to me within 15mins of leaving to say both that, and the door mirror would be covered-phew! The only problem was no courtesy car, but then they even pulled one of those out of the hat-thank God as the misses likes to be mobile!
So it's booked in for Fri morning.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
