GAP insurance - worth it?

Post by CondorX5 » Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:26 am

Having just bought the 4.8 recently, I've been offered BMW gap insurance - never taken these additional insurances before, is it worth it? BMW are offering £10K gap insurance for 3 years for about £260, I'll take it if its sensible but what do you all think?

I paid something like that for 3 years for my M as well, and took it. My gap amount was bigger though - i.e. 20k. After 3 years, my M was supposed to be worth about 25k so the difference would have been covered.

Did not need it, but for the small amount and the huge coverage I thought it was worth it.

I checked on excess for insurance for example, and to recude an excess by £500, the premium was another £100 or so. That to me was a high premium for such a low cover (i.e. £100 to cover £500), but in case of shortfall you pay £260 in your case to cover £10k. To me that is not a bad insurance value.

Its not bad at all really Condor... remember that not all accidents happen when you are driving (dustbin man might wipe it out this winter) and you would end up losing. At least with this you have peace of mind...

I think I'll take it, will call them up when they're next open. Peace of mind, as you say, which is why I stayed with BMW main dealer to buy the 4.8 in the first place. Its small change in terms of BMW ownership anyhow!!!
