Is it only on for the first few minutes max?

If so, then thats common and mine is doing it.  The ECU will have logged a thermostat circuit error, I've been told its common and a new thermostat is required which will fix the issue.

My thoughts are that 'ill get around to it' but for now ill let my car sound like a london bus for the first 2-3 minutes of cold start as it heats up the the correct level.

Iirc when I looked into this there wasn't a seperate part listing for the switch.........Only the aux fan could be bought complete & not cheap.

There was a site where an owner fixed theirs not sure if it wa switch or motor - I believe this was on  an E39 540i....but not a 5 min fix.
