Hello all,
I'd just like to introduce myself to the forum. I bought my first BMW in April, a 2006 56 E83 X3 2.0d SE in silver. So far it has been a great car, covered 4k in the last 2 months. It seems so far to be a very solid car, and as an introduction to BMW ownership I am very impressed.
My previous car was a Peugeot 307, which was written off. We decided to just keep my wifes wee Clio for a while, but then the day after finding out she was pregnant went out and bought the X3! It's the perfect size for my wife to drive and I preferred to buy a 4wd car for safety in the winter and also just incase we have some snow as we may be moving to the north of Scotland during ownership of the car.
Anyway, hello everybody and any suggestions with regards to the car I am all ears.
Steve
Apologies for the poor photo!

Welcome aboard....
Good to see another X3 Owner joining the ever increasing membership. And it looks like your 'X' is very much at home on a bit of 'countryside' in the Highlands too.....

Welcome to this mad house, looks nice, I've been looking at the x3 for my lass as were expecting tiny feet next few weeks and I use the x5, from what I was looking at I was questioning why I bought an x5 as the x3 seemed to tick all the same boxes and cost a chunk less to buy on same year and do better mpg, they seem like a good comprimise of x5 practicality and 3 series running costs no doubt you'll keep us informed of how it goes, oh and glad you got shot of the pugeot I hate all french cars and there stupid close together pedals!!

I hate Pugs!! Had a 309 once. 1.9D no turbo. Handled OK, but was horribly built and the metal panels were 'a bit thin'!

Personally, you won't find me with any French car. I hate them all....

Haha, I knew i shouldn't have mentioned the pug!
I fully agree with peoples opinions on the pug, however, I wouldn't extend it to all French cars. I've owned a Renaultsport Megane 225 and it was great. I was looking to buy a 250, or maybe even a new 265 before I bought the X3.
But let's not discuss this too much, I'm really happy with my X3 and hopefully the weather will be nice this weekend and I can get it cleaned properly and put some decent photos up.

Welcome - Not far along the road from me. Where you moving to?
I can't see a picture - Am I missing something or just my settings?
I bought my X5 August 2011 thinking it would be great for the winter after the previous harsh winters - I think it saw one day of snow and that was only because I had to head up an untreated dirt track - Performed well though
I was up in Carr-Bridge the previous winter when around a foot of snow fell and brought chaos - I managed ok in my 250bhp fwd Alfa Romeo 156 but then I knew to turn off traction and used some common sense (mainly keep it moving constantly) but it sat that low that I was ploughing at some points and virtually surfing along the rutted sections!

Thank you. Where are you from? I may be moving to Lossiemouth in the next 2 years or so. But we'll see.
It's typical having a few bad winters, then buying a car to cope with it and the next winter is mild! I'm sure this winter will be the same so as to stop me trying mine out in the snow!
Ah, I know the roads around Carrbridge well, I had the same experiences in the fwd Megane 225 I mentioned before and it coped very well, but I feel I used the same common sense as you did!
I'm not sure why you can't see the picture mate, sorry.

from me too!
Pics may not show on work PC because of work Proxy Server settings... That happens on mine.
I used to own a Renault 19 16v (them were the days ::)) and I racked up over £3.5k in warranty bills in that pile of poo! Never again!
