CD Changer

Hi Guys,
My CD Changer has jammed. It is covered under Warranty but there is a £100 excess to pay. I will probably pay this for them to give me a new one plus look at some other issues while they are at it but I was also thinking if there was a different Alpine CD Changer that is a straight swap? From memory I thought there was one that played MP3's etc. and that you might be able to have as well as the Intravee?

The cd players you can use with an Intravee are quite hard to come by - found one a while ago and bought it to install when I actually get around to installing an Intravee. It has to be AiNet compatible and am not sure that any new models are, and you will need an Intravee switch for it to work along with the Intravee - these were unavailable for ages but TIYC now have them in stock again I think. Intravee guru Sanj will be along soon I'm sure! But will look up the model details for you for the cd changer if not.

2nd hand one via Amazon at present
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listin ... dition=all
No doubt ebay will have a few. Tried to sell mine a few years ago. Intravee went in a nano second but couldn't sell the Alpine. Seems like times have changed.
I'll be selling my Alpine and the Intravee at the end of the year when 1 of the X's is moved on but that doesn't help you now.

My CD player is not functional at present - Not bothered, do you really still use it?
I listen to radio, iphone via an itrip (wireless - tuned into car radio) or my glorious V8

Tha late 2005 onwards OEM CD Changer was supposed to be MP3 disc capable. You may find that the replacement from BMW will have that ability too.....possibly?
Our July 2005 one fitted to the E46 is certainly MP3 compatible. They were due into the E53 in late 2004, but did not actually appear until much later.
You want the third '01' entry down on
this Realoem list. Post 10/2005 looks to be the cut-off point after which the MP3 one was fitted.
Mind you $500 is taking the mickey!

£100 excess, half way to an intravee and if you get one of them you don't need the cd player anyway

I already have the Intravee etc. I bought it over a year and a half ago off Lez. I bought a Sub Enclosure too off Mitch but still haven't fitted either - very busy / lazy.
Even if I do fit the Intravee, I still want the CD Player to be working even if it isn't connected. I can't stand parts of my car not working properly.

Cheers mate. I think I'll just get it into the dealer and see what they replace it with. Worth £100 anyway i'd say.

fix the intravee, remove the cd changer and keep it in the house or garage

That will probably be what I do. If I get a new CD Changer then I will leave it safe and sound in the house for when I come to sell.

Radio reception or channels? My reception is good and award winning local channel is great
I know what you mean about the annoyance of things not working - i am the same but CD changers are so tempremental and old hat that they can be ignored!
I remember spending loads of money and time fitting CD changers but then having to prise them open due to constant jamming and rescuing CDs that often ended up damaged

I now have two cd changers in my loft, I have the intravee in the X and the old dice unit in the E46.
I too fully intend to reinstall upon sale, if not, ebay here I come

Reception is fine, just the channels aren't great - local radio is cheesy and national is generally poor. Radio 2 usually if I listen to the Radio.
