Here is a bmw x5 e70 3.0sd dyno graph
This was tested by another tuning company PDT in newcastle
we made the remap file for them and they tested the car on there 4X4 dyno dynamics rolling road

customer was very happyImage

Impressive..... :o :) :P

How close is that to 'maxing out' the transmission?

This is set to 518ft/lbs=702nm
We have go a good few friends that wanted more and are running around the 740-750nm

Any idea of what this did to the fuel economy?

That it's really impressive, no need for a 40d then.
Question is, what can you get from a 40d?

Lots....if what I have seen on line is anything like accurate.  50+BHP and similar torque increase.. :spiteful: :D

Jason will know for sure, but I think the transmission can in theory take 800nm unmodified.  There is a factory version rated to 1,000nm for Rolls-Royce.

That'll be the one to fit prior to letting Jas at it ;)

It would be interesting to find out which gear box it uses

ZF 8HP90 version is the one listed.

[/quote]looked in to this just waiting to get one to play with

As for the 3.0sd when I limit the max torque to 518 ft/lbs they will always make 345-346 bhp on a dyno dynamics rolling road

I really need to get my x3sd remapped when I get it. Torque stats calaculator comes out at 0-60 in 5.6 sec!

According to Wikipedia (not always accurate I know) the 8HP70 is fitted to the X5, max torque 700Nm?

That's the one......rated to 800nm for the M50D.  Seems to have the same part number, though a new version was released in April this year.

Whether it's simply a torque converter change to make it an 8HP90, or it needs different clutch packs too, I dunno, but 1000nm would be fun.... :D

I don't know how the tolerances work.  If approved to 700Nm, does this include sensible headroom ie it could easily cope with 750Nm (say), or is that the max that is sensibly advised ie going for 750Nm carries risk of overloading the transmission.  I'm assuming the latter given Jason's recommended torque level.
