Hi folks,
I've been driving a '01 E53 for a couple of months now. The story so far is I mentioned to a mate of mine that my Toyota Surf was off the road and he says " Why not use my X5, it's been in my garage for months and now I have the new RR Vouge I need to get round to selling it but it needs a few jobs doing on it first, borrow it for a bit".
So now I'm thinking of offering him £4.500 for it.
Body work isn't great as in his electric garage door came down on the bonnet and after the repair you can still see  a mark where the paint's feathered in, small bits of lacquer here and there, small dint in the tailgate and a few scratches here and there.
The rear air suspension has a mind of it's own, the main engine fan is constantly on (engine  temp switch ?) Drivers side electric window switch knackered and the radio/info readout has a couple of pixels left in it.
BUT !! there must be something about the bloody thing that I like.

Hi to all and I'll be back.

Welcome along.  :hi:

I'm sure there is nothing wrong that can't be easily fixed, after all there are many X5's being broken for spares now - you might even be able to get a replacement bonnet in the right colour etc  ;)

Hope the forum is of help to you - it has me, and before anyone else says it -  :camera: :camera: :camera:

Just remember - modding is like pringles - one you pop - you just can't stop  ;)

Welcome aboard.

Sounds like a nice project motor to me and one you can really make your own. I've always been of the opinion that if something's broke....MOD IT... :D

Welcome!  :hi:

Cosmetics can cost a fortune or be done on the cheap, eBay may be a good place to start. Bonnet and switch will be easier to source there, especially if you don't have the folding mirrors (£50). Pixels have been repaired by forum members for £80 on here too. Rear air suspension could be a sensor, fan again a temp gauge/sensor.

Cheers for the encouragement,  although I'm not a mechanic or auto electrics expert I will be doing any work myself and after keeping my Hilux 20 year old Surf on the road (including engine rebuild) I have found the relevant forum invaluable, so I think it's time to move on from the cosy cocoon that is the newbies section, take a deep breath and dive in with the big boys (and girls).

Cheers all.
