Folding wing mirrors

Following my request re mirrors I've just had an email from the dealer suggesting on a 2012 X5 the wing mirrors can only be folded using the button inside and not the key as they used to be. Apparently looking on the web it's all to do with health and safety?
PVR or anyone with an LCI X5 have any thoughts?

That's certainly the case on my X6 - built at the same time as the LCI arrived - but there is a forum where people have gone into the system and enabled other functionality that is normally off. Mirrors are one, tailgate closure off the key or inside button is another (default being you have to press the button on the tailgate).
Have a look
here to see what can be done.

Thanks, very interesting.
I've had a look and I'm sure it's pretty simple but I think I'll refrain from mucking about with the new car for a little while!
I'm amazed BMW have removed this option....

I asked them to do it, but they could not.
I did get other coding done by the dealer, i.e. remove key from ignition opens the doors and other nice touches.
- Wiper cycle finish when engine is turned off (why is that not standard ???)
- Eject keyfob when stopping the engine
I had asked, but did not get:
- Windows up / down with keyfob
- Mirrors in / out with keyfob

Buying from Berry at Heathrow.
Really don't understand why BMW have fiddled about with these options :-[

I've got a 2010 Pre-LCI X5 and managed to code the folding wing mirrors myself following the guide on bmwcoding.com. I can't see how the LCI would be any different.

There were some changes in LCI which made that mod no longer work, as per xoutpost. I have not tried anything on mine yet to see what else is possible thoug.

Had a call from BMW this morning and it's officially taken off the menu.....for safety reasons.
Why?!
I really don't want to muck about with a new car's software so I'll leave it be for the moment and Mrs. M is happy to press a button for the time being which makes life a bit easier.

Safety reason? What are they bothered about? Owners playing ping pong with a passing fly.......and no warning signs saying 'Danger - mirror may move unexpectedly!'. What is the world coming to?

Maybe the shock to an infirm member of the public from the unexpected movement of said mirror could cause them to falter, then who knows what may happen?
Health and safety, the world HAS gone mad, unless of course you either practice it's law, write the rules or implement it......

They also then need to disable the remote boot opening from the key, its a health and safety risk! Good fun in a carpark surprising people walking past

I have this facility on my 2012 F10 5 Series but not on the X5 which I find most annoying.
