Leather cleaning?

Just doing a bit of cleaning on the car and noticed the leather is looking a bit dull and lifeless, what do people use for the leather in their cars, not only for feeding/polishing etc. but for cleaning prior to treatment.

At the moment I use the Autoglym Leather Care. Never had any trouble with it on the Nappa Leather on my E53.

I use the leather balm they do, so I'm wondering whether the leather needs a clean with something like a weak solution of APC before applying the treatment, just so as I know I'm not merely treating all the crud that might be on there.
I suppose it is the trouble with having black leather.

I had the black leather too and only ever found that the Leather Cream on its own was fine - probably an advantage in the colour as you say.

When BMW finally give me the X6 back, and it stops raining for more than 10 minutes, I plan to have a go at cleaning the Beige Nappa in it...

I use the AG leather cleaner on my black nappa, cleans up well and leaves it looking good.

Just remember, the last thing you should have or want is shiny leather.

Has anyone tried the hot micro fibre cloth (used on steering wheels) on the seats?

What's the advantage of a hot cloth? I'm assuming it's dry but you've heated it in a microwave or something?

I use Meguiars leather cleaner for properly cleaning the leather. Then use Swissol leather milk feed for treatment. Works well on all leather types and colours.

Gliptone is also very good too.

I was sure I read on here or detailing world that you damp a micro fibre cloth then microwave it 'till it's hot then you wrap it around the steering wheel. This is supposed to get all the crud out of the leather without damaging it. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I will have another look and see if I can find it.

Lots and lots of talk on detailing world, but it would seem that the most important thing is keeping the leather clean.

......and er....expensive if you buy some of the stuff they talk about

I mean Â£4k for a pot of wax!!

I know, but at least you don't have to stop for lunch whilst waxing the car, as apparently you can eat the stuff as well.

The kit comes with the cream as well but it's the cleaner that is just so good.

although i've never had dirty or worn out seats to see if it really makes a major difference.

Just to update this, finally decided to go for a leather cleaner after reading through some threads on detailingworld forum.
After speaking to Darryl @ www.drleather.com it made sense to just keep the leather clean, and after using it today I must say it has made a real difference to the look and feel of it, also, they put something in the cleaner to give you that smell of leather as well, it's like walking into a good old fashioned cobblers shop.
Go onto detailing world and have a read of some of the reports, or just email Darryl, it just makes sense to me, and it saves me a lot of work, which is no bad thing.
