Popped in the IV2 and KCA, hitched up the iPod Touch Gen 1 and music is there. iPod charges so all well you would think.

Actually no. It goes to sleep. Usually after about an hour. I've read about the calendar reminders but that's no good for a 1 hour time frame.

Of course I just jump into the car and I'm 200yds down the road before I realise I've got no music. I stop and go back to the boot, press the button, put in the pin code and away it goes.

Short of positioning the iPod connection in the centre armrest is there any other way I can keep the bugger awake for longer than an hour.

You can do the wake up mod on the KCA-420i, see here,

I've got a Gen 1 iPod touch as well and it goes to sleep as soon as 15/20 mins of leaving it idle. I've got the cables in the front cabin of both my X5 and Z4 so I've never bothered with the wake up mod.

You can do this your self as Richard has made the mod with one wire rather than a chip, see same thread but this post.

Or drop him a pm on this forum as he is a member and will respond, his forum name is RichardP.

After reading the two posts in that thread, and having a 5th gen ipod nano, I will go with chip version as it appears more suitable.

A quick pm to richardp it is then.

Thanks for the pointers 8-)

The single wire version is just as good really - honest! It also has the advantage that it will charge a totally flat iPod, the chip version won't do that. The iPod Touch battery can go flat even if it's not used at all in a couple of days.

Just saying, I can still supply the chip if you want.

Hi RichardP. So, are you saying that the wire only mod is the best for the 5th gen nano?
I don't mind which mod I do, as long as it wakes the pod up instead of having to remember to go into the boot each time. The nano doesn't fully discharge even though it can be left for a coupe of weeks at a time.

Thanks for the reply :)

What's the best iPod to use? I'm gonna get a second hand one instead of using the iPhone so don't have to keep disconnecting.

I think the single wire mod is best.

The best iPod depends if the KCA-420i is modified or not. For unmodified the iPod Video 5.5 Gen 80Gb is best. Modded, either a Video or the current Classic.
