Is it worth buying a space saver wheel for the X5 E70 ? I'm changing to non runflats in around 7K miles & planning on using the goo stuff if I get a puncture, but thinking of getting space saver. I have the 21" & RFT tyres which I hate. Hate the RFT's our 118d M Sport & on previous 335d Coupe, even moreso on the current X5.

What do you all think ? Do they do a 21" Space Saver wheel ? & will it fit in the boot under the tray?

There is a retrofit kit for the space saver (5J x 18, not 21" though) which would help you out. The man who came out here last weekend intimated that the BMW 'goo' wasn't very good. Have a look on Realoem......I guessed at a model and year and got this result...

Agreed. Trouble is that if they do then it's bye bye 7-seater. I would rather have the option at build. At least we can make the choice - assuming you are buying new of course. The 19" winter tyres (also RFT) definitely give a better ride as they have more sidewall.

But then our E46 has very low profile non-RFT as standard and the ride is just as hard, possibly harder - one reason it keeps breaking rear coil springs (a known weakness!). No sidewall to have any 'give' in, which will always be the problem with ultra low profile tyres whether RFT or not - at least until the technology improves.

18" space saver is fine for what it is designed for, which is just to get you out of trouble. Restricted to 50mph normally on them and will give you the same rolling circumference as your 21's. Not keen on the goo tbh as its only ever going to be fine for very minor air leaks but also makes a complete mess of the inside which means puncture repair is not possible afterwards.
