Hi
Been a bit quiet on here recently as have been working real hard
so hope you won't rib me to much as I'm posting a question
Can any of you tech heads help with a little issue I have? I purchased a recon iPod as in the title for my parents who live abroad.
My father has fitted a stereo in his car with an iPod adaptor but everytime he connects the pod it plays for a bit then disconnects from the car. I tried two iPhones and another pod in his car which were fine.
I went to an apple store yesterday who say that there is nothing wrong with it. Today I plugged it into my own intravee setup and it does it on mine as well.
Has anyone out there experienced this issue or have any advice?
Penny

Can't say that I've had your issue but then I only use my iPhone in the car.
Has firmware been updated? If so have you done a reset/restore? Could just be a glitch in the software, If non of these work then I would say its a hardware issue within the device.

As above or try just rebooting the iPod, my iPod classic 3rd gen just bought for the intravee as packet in last week.

Thanks for the reply. I will try a factory reset/ restore again. I think it's a hardware fault but apple say there's nothing wrong with it.

If it was cable related, it would not do the same in Penny's car I would have thought.
How is it connected? Via the dock cable or via the headphone connection? I would certainly only connect it via the dock cable.

Have you checked when it disconnects, what the iPod display saying? Maybe battery issue? Try using it with headphones and see if the same happens.

Right it works fine with headphones and is connected through the dock. It does it on mine so can't be lead can it?
The screen has the Alpine logo on when connected and when I notice it disconnects it just reverts to normal iPod screen so you manually select.
I played it for 20mins this morning uninterrupted so it's not always a finite amount of time before disconnection.

It almost sounds like some form of compatibility issue. Have you any other iDevice to check things like cables etc with to see what works? If it all comes back to everything but that iPod works then regardless of what the Apple Store thinks, it's got a problem.
Good to see you back on the Board too......we've missed you..
Needs someone to keep us all in check..

Most iPod interfaces (like the Alpine KCA-420i) use pins in the dock connector that are not used if you simply connect the iPod to your PC with the sync cable.
It would be worth looking in the dock connector socket of the iPod with a magnifying glass for dirt, fluff or damage. If it looks clean and in good condition, see if you can force the disconnect condition by gently manipulating the connector while working with the KCA-420i, it may be an intermittent contact on one of the lesser used dock connector pins.

Is it an intravee/KCA setup or an iPod compatible head unit?

X5 sport thanks for the welcome back. I feel guilty like when I haven't phoned mother. I've been neglectful I must admit and you boys definitely need a dose of female input as after all, we are the superior race!
Richard I didn't want to contact you directly as I'm mindful of being a knowledge sponge but I have tried to wiggle connection but will have another go. It played gloriously in the my car today with no issues but did falter at first yesterday. There's no fluff and even the Genius Bar Apple bod said how clean it was.
My step father/ father said he's checked with stereo provider said it was compatible so it's a head scratch moment.
ilounge told me to check compatibility and that's also to be continued.
I do have to say though listening to Genesis, In the air tonight re awakened my love of music passed (still the best).
I'm going to try another restore and jiggle of wires as I have this sneaky feeling I've purchased a duff pod. On the lighter side 'I'm in doors can have it for a small fee and I can buy the crinkly's another
He's is a compatible stereo that states it gives you full use of iPod and mines a intravee KCA setup.

Welcome back Pen
Can I just confirm that you are using an iPod nano 5th gen on your intravee setup without issue?
The reason I ask is that I have just bought the same version iPod and intend to use it in the X.
Your prob does seem a little odd, I too would question the interface. Are you using. Scosche (?) adaptor?
