Glad you sold it..........I am guessing you won't miss this particular car due to cost of ownership. I can't claim mine has been cost effective to keep maintained but it remains here for now at least.
What is the replacement ?

I haven't found the X5 to be that bad at all...touch wood....having said that I did run an Audi RS6 and RS4 plus a highly tuned S4......so it would be lighter on the pocket! (what a f:"king show off I am).

My 911 costs far less to keep... everything that could go wrong, did go wrong with the X5....
Ive replaced it with a 2006 Legacy 3.0R Spec B... which is getting Super Charged!...

Odd how some do very well yet others are a nightmare. Mine wasn't the best introduction to BMW 4WD owning either but our E46 has been very good. I think I got shot of the E53 before anything (other than the gearbox which went prematurely) else expensive went pop! Out of warranty costs were low but a lot of silly and annoying things went wrong under warranty (PAS Hoses, mirrors, boot lock, headlight misting, audio fault, starter motor, rear washer nozzle). After the OEM but under a WD Warranty was the gearbox and fuel pump relay. Total of 56,000 miles and 6.5 years under my ownership. Only needed two Oil and an Insp 1, plus brake fluid changes. Less than £1,000 overall. Add another £1,000 for the WD Warranty over 3.5 years.
That being said, the E71 is proving to have it's little challenges too. Not that the Dealer seems to know what's wrong - which is much more worrying. I have not come across so much clutching at staws before with any car.
Good luck with the Legacy....

My E53 only had a leaking gearbox sump seal and glow plug control box go wrong in 6.5 years, nothing else. Total spent on car £1500 in all servicing, MOT and extended warranty. For me it was the cheapest car I have ever had for running costs.
