Joining club in September

Hello all,
Ordered my first X3 this week, due Aug/Sept.
2.0 SE auto + very few goodies

Can hardly wait after a test drive in pouring rain.

Went to look at an X1 but wife was unimpressed, but the black X3 parked nearby brought the reaction 'I want that one!' - who am I to argue!

I shall be an avid reader of the forum

Regards

Welcome aboard.... X3's Owners are a rare breed on this forum (a bit like us X6 Owners). I have to admit that neither my wife or I were impressed with the X1. We both like the X3 - which in it's current form is nearly as big as the original E53. She ended up with the Mini Countryman instead - for which I had to sell the E53. :(

What colour did you go for?

Not too long to wait.. :|

Had a brief test in an X3 early in the year and was impreseed. In the end decided to buy out my X5 lease as it was such a good deal but would have had no qualms about the X3.
And welcome!

I have gone for Jet Black. The one we saw was metallic but unless you look very, very close it is hard to tell the difference. Also our budget was stretched by going for the X3 over the X1.

The thing that worries me - once I get the car is 'getting doored' when it is parked in a car park. My 6 year old VW Eos (which the X3 replaces) was totally unmarked but I was 'paranoid' where I parked that.

Nice colour choice. Unfortunately in the UK, car park etiquette is somewhat low!! But it's not just the doors. I was parked clear of other cars in B & Q recently, and someone ran a trolley into my front bumper.

It is a pity that the rubber 'side strips' are no longer 'in vogue' on modern cars.
Do side steps/running boards help (if/when anyone produces them)? I recently parked next to some 4x4 with side steps and it was apparent that my door would touch them, not the 4x4 bodywork.

Not really as the shape of car doors panels being curved means they usually pass above the side steps and hit the panels before the bottom of the panel gets to the step.

I try to park away from everyone else now.... :?

Looks like my car is ~ 2 months early - picking up next Friday. Have to clear more space in the garage - the X3 is a 'bit' bigger than the Fabia Estate!!

Surprised that the insurance is pretty reasonable (but then I am a 'wrinkly' do ~ 5000 miles/year and have max NCD). Gone for BMW's own insurance - for the first year at least.

Next jobs: mudflaps and rubber mats. I still think that side steps may give some 'car park dooring' protection and there are some for the F25 now.

Just hope the car is as reliable as the Skoda (2001) - that has been the best car I've ever owned.

Another F25 fan here & if I hadn't spent so much on renting/buying property more recently then same would definitely be on my radar........having driven one I have to say I was left very impressed. Very capable car and enjoyable on twisty roads too.

Looking forward to the pics.

Oh and whatever you do make sure you buy proper BMW mats not Halfords specials. Not cheapest but OE looks so much better IMO.
