Diesel Additive Service Schedule?

Hi all
In my service book it lists a "diesel additive" option but as yet it hasn't been done on mine, is it simply the BMW stealer pouring a cleaner into the fuel tank and if so what's the intention, EGR valve cleaning perhaps? When should this be done on a 2009 35d?
Thanks
Carl

Not required in the UK. US/Canadian models have a special 'Urea' tank for controlling Nitrogen Oxides emissions. As the Euro emission regs don't require it you don't need to worry. I think BMW now only produce a 'common' manual which makes reference to all sorts of things which may or may not be on your car.
The 35d is/was the only Diesel model available in the US, hence making mention of the diesel additive.
This Wikipedia article may provide more info..

Almost.....Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) - I thought it looked wrong when I typed it, but couldn't think why. I don't mean the laughing gas additive....
I was thinking in chemistry rather than convention terms - corrected!!
