Hey guys writing this post on behalf of my boss, he owns a 2003 4.4i and recently the boot lid as been unlocking while his driving the car , . Can anyone help ?

Need to check that the lock is actually closing fully, and not partially closing. It should 'pull' the tailgate shut as I'm assuming it is a 'soft-close' system like mine had? I don't know if all the E53's had soft close tailgates, or whether it arrived with the ace lift versions?

After that, all I can think of is either adjustment or electrics, or the actual locking mechanism has broken.

The microswitches in exterior boot release handle fail and cause random unlocking.

Thanks guys , I've past on the message .. He wil be selling the car in the next few months as his family is growing so his getting bigger car ... If anyone interested.. It's a 2003 x5 4.4i .. No sat nav but with heated seats , 2 owner from new, a lady an my boss and for the mileage under 35 k , colour gold, car was brought over here in the channel islands , an my boss is irish and he has taking the car there and it goes well . I'll take some pics soon an nearer the time of selling I'll put price on .
