Hi all

My X6 35d is saying it needs an oil change in 4000 miles (all other service items are 20k + miles), how much will BMW charge for this and does it differ based on age, mileage, dealer to dealer etc or is it a fixed cost?

Thanks

Carl

My Dealer charges £160inc for an oil change on the 6-cyl engine. You could always source your own oil and take it in. Some dealers will play nicely, others won't. In some cases the Dealer may actually charge less than the High Street for the oil because they buy in bulk.

You need 7.5 litres of this oil though I'm not suggesting you have to buy it from the supplier shown...

All you can do is ask, and how much of a difference it would make?

Now PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, and it's in now way meant to offend, if it does I sincerely apologise but after paying tens of thousands of pounds for a quality piece of engineering, why worry about saving 50 quid on a change of oil ??? Shall I stand up the wall to be shot now ????

I'm not worried about it, just wanted to know how much and the suggestion to supply my own is an excellent one, something I've done before.

Why pay £100 for oil supplied by BMW which just meets the spec when I can buy the very best available for half the price.

Just cos I paid a lot for my car doesn't mean I wanna throw money away

No offence taken BTW

Can we use a pea shooter instead?  Bullets are expensive you know..... :o

Mine's on a Service Pack so it will be a while.  Once out of warranty though, I may well do it myself.  Assuming I haven't nearly crippled myself by then.... :( but you're right.  £160 is nothing in light of the fact the car cost me £64k.  It's the principle of it for me....and I wouldn't take offence either BTW.  Too thick skinned - although SWMBO would remove the 'skinned'.. :-[

Me too (in Tamworth)

The problem is that using an indie invalidates the warranty as Mondial insist that only BMW approved garages are used and of course they only approve their own dealers.

Mine is going in for an oil and brake fluid change today and I seem to recall that a figure just under £300 was quoted.

Insurance is also due next week so it's going to be an expensive month

Mine is an 08 in vermillion red and when collecting my lad from Wilnecote High School I noticed one of the mothers drives a black one but they do seem to be rare beasts around here

I always bring in my own oil and provide the cans (they don' t use it) to avoid the disposal charge.

Per BMW I have, this saves about £75 each and it is the same oil. For the 5 minutes it takes me to order it online from say Opie oils when they have an offer, it is worth it to me.

Hate paying over the top for something that I can get a lot cheaper elsewhere ...

Is the oil in the X6 35d specification 0w 30 or 5w 30, or something different again?

According to the Edge site - it is this one. 5W-30. Not suggesting you buy it there, but that's the one you need..
