X6 35d MPG

Hi All

I was interested to see what MPG my 2009 X5 35d was giving me compared to my outgoing Range Rover Vogue TDV8 so on my m,way journey to work this morning reset the mpg indicator and started on a steady drive for about 15 -20 minutes. I reset in a 50mph zone and was doing circa 55mph which seemed to settle the indicator at around 36mpg and then when getting up to 70mpg the mpg dropped to 30.3 which i am surprised and disappointed about, my RR did this with ease (albeit 24mpg combined) and i was being very gentle with the X6 to get the same, surely 30.3mpg on a 70mph cruise is low?

What do others get?

Its running V Power Diesel, all tyres are brand new and inflated to 34 and it doesn't need a service.

Id appreciate feedback on this?

Average of roughly 28

Wow really, so BMW stated 35mpg combined is tosh then?

I loved my RR but was pi**ed about the mpg, turns out it wasn't that bad after all

Total Rubbish!!!! Had a run over to brugge at the weekend and with gentle driving i was only getting 26mpg....this went down once back in the UK but then again i didnt hang around on the way home

Over a 3000 mile round trip at xmas i averaged 27mpg. Has been into BMW and they say nothing is wrong with the car. I am finding it around 15% worse than my old E53.

It would seem the 35d is the worst for economy for some reason

I'm only getting 31 at present, but it does do better on a long steady run. Still below the 'official figures' though....

It's slightly better than my old E53 was, but not as much as the published figures would have me believe. I also find it's easier to achieve the higher figures on the 40d than was the case with the E53 30d. That is probably down to the two extra gears and being able to override the change points with the paddles so it selects a more economical gear earlier.

Just buy a smart car if you are worried about economy

You are never going to get great economy out of a 2.5t 4x4

Not worried just surprised that Land Rover figures are more accurate than BMW that's all.

I wanted the 35d for the extra performance and am happy in that respect I just thought 28 - 30 was considered low but seems to be the norm.

And here was me thinking if i enjoy the X6 as much longer term as i have so far id like a 50i or even X6M, if the figures are that far out then those will only do 14mpg

That is why I'm not too worrie about my new car

Yes economy will be a little worse but take in to account petrol cheaper than diesel then not much of a change

I was never a diesel buyer, always a petrol head and after this X6 and the Range Rover returning less than quoted and me paying a handsome sum for premium diesel i think the next will be petrol again

I was getting 65mpg compared to book of 80 in my smart car which of course is still good

If you are a low mileage driver, then Diesel no longer makes sense. But on these 2.2T wagons even the petrol versions are ouch on the pocket. I only get close to the published data when the air temps are close to the test temp +/- 3C. 25C was lunacy as the selected 'test point'.

It will be interesting to see what figures come out for the X6 M50d due in a few months?

Some manufacturers have been forced to correct their data downwards as the figures were just plain wrong. We're only getting mid-40s out of the Mini, which is supposed to do 56mpg.

The bit that annoys me most is that both the Governments and Industry know the data is misleading but are totally unwilling to do anything about it. There has been uproar in the US, where new more accurate fuel data is now being published and the conspiracy theorists are having a ball with Government plots to cause people extra expense on fuel. And it's not as if their fuel is expensive compared to what we pay.

Are they though

Friend of mine had an 4.8 E70 and I wouldn't say his mpg was that scary taking in to account the diff in fuel price. Cheaper on servicing too

If there was a petrol version for sale when I was looking I'd have considered it given the diesel costs and reduced refinement I've found with the 35d.

There wasn't any within Â£15k of the price I paid for my 35d, that was for a 50i which is out of my price range given the Â£10k loss on my Range Rover in 7 months
