The one to aim at is Jason at bwchiptune as he's our expert on tuning and remap work.

Wouldn't touch a tuning box, they just add more fuel and air and that's about all. Need a proper remap. Jason at bwchip tune on here is well regarded and I will have mine done eventually but I'm in yorks

Tuning boxes do work and at less £100 many people fit them to save money, the above post is right though. They add more fuel and allow more air, some evan increas fuel pressure, the down side is they also kick out loads of black smoke because they don't increase boost. You need only a minimal amount of increased boost to over come the black crap.
Reampping a diesel is not done the same as petrol, most petrols have custom maps, diesels are just downloaded from a laptop, and tweaked if needed. But this is classed as better because your changing the ecu and of cause is the right way, TB are fooling sensors to increase power.

Either way both work and will gain a similar amount of extra power, it's down to the buyer what he/she thinks is best.

Jason would send you out a magic box which you plug into your OBD

The engine map is then uploaded from the car to the box,

You then email the file to Jason

Jason works his magic before emailing you the new map

You plug the box back into the car and download the new map.

Once you are happy with the map, you send the box back to Jason.

Simples  :)

I have the same problem, Jason has a couple of options. He has a network of places that can do the remap using his data. Or he is able to set out an tool that you can rear your cars map sent it to him and he sends the new map back, I think this needs a depostit for the tool.

I did think of seeing if there was enough intrest in a central loaction to get a few cars together so Jason could do a group remap. But I could do with mine done this month as I am off to France for a 2k trip and would like the map done before that.
