HUD & professional multimedia

Post by 5wany » Sun Mar 25, 2012 2:39 am

Anyone know if the multimedia can be shown in the HUD ?

According to BMW UK site it says BMW professional multimedia can also be shown.

Its described in the pic they use if you build an X5 on BMW site, select HUD in the optional equipment section --- pic comes describing Head-up Display (S0610)

Googled, and did a bit of digging around but can't find any info on it, manual in car has no info either?

HUD can show speed, speed limit, directions per the Sat Nav and Active Cruise Control information. It doesn't show multimedia info. Perhaps that's an option on more recent HUD units such as the new 5 series?

Head Up Display.

The iDrive display is capable of multimedia, but not the HUD. Interesting comment on the website though, as you say.

There was talk on various forums about a 'full colour HUD becoming available on the 5 and 7 series, so maybe there is now a new version for the updated LCI X6 due shortly?

There is a new one referred to here, but perhaps the term 'multimedia' has been used incorrectly? It looks clever though...

In the UK, having video showing anything other than certain controls (video no matter how derived is illegal - navigation/driver aids aren't) within the driver's eye-line is an offence under Section 109 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use Regulations) 1986 - which is why there is a cut-off as soon as you engage drive or release the handbrake. Just a note to remember for anyone who has 'video in motion' enabled!! I think it's code CU20 (3 points) if you are unfortunate enough to get caught with it in use. If there's a screen/filter blocking the view of the display from the driver's view then you're fine.

Years ago I developed a fleet of special vehicles which used computer displays for tracking offenders and we had to ensure the screen was angled so the driver could not see it and those vehicles were operated 'double-crewed'. Police vehicles are exempted (bless em!!), which is why they now have all sorts of displays visible in their cars.
:ant: Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

Yeah, I think its a play on words by BMW. Naughty sharp practice :x

My previous Audi A6 avant had the tracks, albums shown on the DIS (driver information system) on the dash as well as the standard nav screen.

I have the HUd, media & prof sound, so thought I was in luck and could get the track info onto the windscreen, ah well.....
