...40d fuel figures??

Hi folks..

Just wanted to know roughly what you are getting in yours? Mine has only been driving twice since getting it earlier this week and it's not looking that rosy.
Maybe the fact it's not run in has an effect...when do you expect it to level out? As for remap, ones that have done. Did you notice better consumption afterwards?

TIA

First tank is 35 for me, motorway only though so far. No local driving at all.

I get high 20s to low 30s, mostly moderate driving with some hard acceleration, mixture of motorway and short local trips in town. I think this is the norm, with mid 30s being exceptional. The quoted BMW combined figure is make believe. Mine has only improved v slightly from when I first got it nearly a year and 6,000 miles ago.

Although a remap is tempting, I won't consider one until the warranty's run out. BMW will invalidate it if they discover a remap.

X6 40d is giving high 20's to mid 30's on mixed driving. Nowhere near the vapour figures BMW quote.. :x

Well..that is about what I see. Currently sitting at 30 mpg and that's mixed driving. Then again my Range Sport only gave me high 20's and that was a measly 2.7, so suppose 30 on this isn't too shabby.

Think remap might improve on this...maybe 2-3 miles extra??!

Similar figures to everyone else

Remap does help a bit but wouldn't do until warranty dead as BMW know about mine!

Same here. About 30mpg on mixed driving but up to 36 on a long motorway trip

Well..today was really fun finding out and out I did.

Took a little run up to the Lochs and on way hit a nice empty stretch of road. I was able to annoy a Focus ST owner, really puzzled why a X5 had got by him lol.

Anyway, I played and had fun with a decent return of 28mpg. Not too bad...

It's even more fun when you tell them that not only have they been passed with ease by such a vehicle, but to add insult to injury it was a diesel version too...and that you still had gears left to use at that speed.... :D

There are still a lot of people who think diesels are rattly, smokey, slow old buses that don't go anywhere quickly. Whilst that may be true of certain manufacturers, the refinement and performance of the modern BMW 6-cyl power plants leaves those days far back in the 20th Century..

I find this very strange, I have a 40d SE and get 30 around town and 37 on a run.
Two weeks ago I went to Anglesea (110 miles) and averaged 40.5.

The car is jut over a year old now and 6,500 miles, the fuel consumption has always been the same,
my previous e53 4.4 did around 14-16 so I am more than happy.

Driving style has the biggest impact upon fuel economy... :D I suffer from a strange desire to want to keep using the 300+ bhp I have on tap. I can get much better figures if I take it more steadily, certainly mid-30s no problem. Just haven't done any long runs at 'respectable speeds' cough... Or at least they're 'respectable speeds' but I tend to reach them rather...errr....quickly.

Mind you I haven't driven at all since Xmas.... Hoping to be allowed back behind the wheel in a month or so now the surgery is over and done with. :)

2011 3.0D M Sport (3 months old & 5K on it)

Just spent a few days in Avimore, travelled from Edinburgh, 42mpg shown on run up, urban driving around Avimore it droped to 38mpg, and on run back down it went back upto 40.3mpg.

About 300 miles in all and brim to brim fill worked out as actual use at 39mpg.

Run up was quite sedate 55-60mph and coming back did push on a bit harder (road was busier so more stuff to overtake ;) )

Generally I do a mix of urban & cruising and get anywhere from 32-35 mpg during a normal week.

I do think published figures are misleading and only the gullible believe them. I knew what I was getting when I bought an X5 and tend not to let the fuel cost annoy me too much as the pleasure gotten from driving an X5 imo exceeds fuel issues.

My Dad borrowed my 2011 40d M Sport lat week & got 38 - 39mpg out of it. I didn't believe him until I saw it for myself, as I have never got anywhere near that.

I'm getting 29 - 33 mpg mixture of driving, when pushing hard it's around 28mg & nothing less.

That's on a 2011 40d M Sport. with 8000 miles covered

Is he like my Dad though? 56mph is about it and as for the 0-62 - well it never gets that fast, and would be in the order of about 90 seconds if he did. Bless. He is 80 now so allowances have to be made. :(

Mind you the thought of him behind the wheel of an X6 is very scary!! :-o :oldman:

Not only past him, but he'd only be getting 25mpg at best.....!!!!
