Voice Activation

My TCU packed up and it has been replaced by bmw under warranty. The new one is one of the latest generation ones. My question is can VR be activated on my car with some kind of programmer?
My car does not have this option at the minute.

Thanks, Graham

You can activate it via the Resler - there are a few folk on here with one - or you can buy your own and do all sorts of things with it :D

Is this what you mean? Do I need any drivers or software?

Yes, it is - you can buy one directly via Rolf Resler's website as well, around £40 with postage. You will need Navcoder software to run on your windoze laptop which costs around £20 licence fee, I think - Penny and Lez have Resler's and I am sure will be along to advise you further......they can do all sorts of things like activate the TV in Motion as well. :D

This one was discussed on the old forum.

For the E53 the most useful things on the Resler will be the TV-in-Motion and the VR (I don't own one) but Penny has had a few more uses for it with updated SatNav discs which cause language problems wen the camera alerts are active.

The problem with the VR is that it is very much a hit and miss affair. Most 05 plate cars won't activeate though the resler, where as anything before is pretty likely to work. It's down to the bluetooth module installed in your acr. They changed a heck of a lot!

I have it but never used it - will try to get round to it one day!

Hi mate,
Your memory is going !!
You told me about the rear view camera operating systems ( pal and ????) and how the resler can change the operating system on them.

Come on Lez - that's a minor one! PAL or NTSC...

NTSC is standard n all UK bound X5's btw - even though we use PAL by default!

Did someone say BEER ..........hmmmm beer!!!! where abouts are you Graham? if you could make it to the meet then lez could sort this for you mate.
Failing that i wouldn't mind posting mine to you to use providing it was cared for :)
Thats if i can find it as it's been a while since i used it last
IIRC I was the guinea pig on this one way back (with help from richardp iirc) i remember thinking what am i doing here plugging this thing into the car :o
i wasn't as efficient with pc's back then either  but it was quite easy in the end.
The only awkward bit for me was having to download a file to be able to use navcoder as my pc is xp and not vista.

Navcoder will send you a code to run it .....if not email Jochen(i think his name is)and he should sort you out.
One more thing the navcoder is pc specific so if you have a laptop put it on that. I don't have one so i had to get an extension cable and reverse my x right up to the office window to connect up

Hi Graham

Same here I can post you mine if you need it. Of course I would like it back :-) lol !!

You can also check the PDC's with it along with voice rec and tv in motion. It also as far I understand can control some light control modules like parking light etc but have never used it for this.

My only issue is I've tried it on a few 2006 models and it has not worked for voice recognition but have not tried on a 2005 but worth a bash.

I would suggest that you email Kiwi Jochen ( the navcoder developer) to see if there are any issues on doing it for the new gen one as I'm sure I read somewhere that there may be issues.
