Retrofit E70 Sun blinds???

Post by moreno5 » Sun Mar 11, 2012 10:21 pm

Hi Guys,

Does anybody know if you can retrofit the OEM sun blinds to an E70? If I have one X5 next to another, could I swap the parts over? They both will have the same interior (Black leather with aluminium trim). DOes anybody know if it is firstly possible and secondly is it a big job?

thanks in advance

Assuming they are both E70's and preferably of the same production year, then it's a case or removing and swapping the complete rear door card assemblies and part of the upper door trim at the top of the window - you need the hooks - over between the donor and recipient cars. Probably fiddly and time consuming. You might have to remove things from the cards like speakers to put back into the right car so to speak....no pun intended.

If they aren't from the same years then have a look at RealOEM and check the two years are compatible - ie matching part numbers.

I looked at doing the same when ordering my E53 in 2004, and was told it was a major job to retrofit afterwards - but I would not have had a donor car to swap things over from so would have had to buy the entire door card and trim assemblies plus blind assemblies!! I ordered the car with instead. :)
