first service

Post by acideraser » Wed Mar 07, 2012 12:46 pm

I left my X5 with dealer for the first service (10500miles-11 month). They read the key and told me that only oil and micro-filter need change.
Is this normal for the first service at 10k?

Also asked them to program mirrors to fold when lock - will see...

I had a voluntary oil change at 1200 miles and my first service is due at the end of this year (24 months) and that will be just as you are finding. Oil & filters only. They will (or should) do a fault check and may update the software if necessary at the same time though. Inspection 1 will be the one after and that will be more involved - and expensive.

My dealer does a 'safety check' as part of the tyre changeover too.

Diesel/Petrol 6-cyl service price.....(petrol V8)
Oil Service = £160 (£170)
Insp 1 = £250 (£270)
Insp 2 = £390 (£460)

Between each Inspection there'll be an oil service usually I think. Never had a BMW up to high enough miles to need more than Insp 1 and the bi-annual brake fluid change.

Thanks X5Sport. They did fault check, tyre thread, brake pads check etc as well. RL tyre shows more wear than other three (which are same level).. Wonder if this is normal I should be alarmed.
They guy told me that it is not possible to program key fob to fold mirrors on lock because my vehicle is 02/2011 production, was only possible on older cars - does it make any sense?

It's possible. There were some clever new electronics that arrived in early Feb last year - mainly to do with the 6NR option (BMW Apps?) which changed a number of functions and options, although I thought that was more associated with the Combox System.. I'm not 100% convinced by the Dealers answer though - albeit that actually they are correct. My experience with Dealers is often the Owners know far more than them - mainly due to these forums. Have a look at the thread on the 'Programming the E70' as the web site referred has a lot of info on doing things on newer cars than both yours and mine. I've joined it and have already found things I want to play with but only have a 64-bit laptop.

Your tyre wear could be down to roundabouts as the nearside rear will take a lot of the load as the tyre under the most pressure. Milton Keynes - close to me - is full of the blasted things (like Basingstoke) and we used to see unusual wear patterns on the NSR wheel on the E53 and E46 (both primarily RWD) and the NSF wheel on the FWD cars we had before.

WRONG

My car is 11/11 (2012MY) & I've programmed a few thinks including folding mirrors.

If your doing yourself you will need cable (decent one @ £65-75) & software (free ).

Check out
http://www.bmwcoding.com/forumdisplay.php?34-E7x

Does take a bit of reasearching etc, but worth it IMO.
I've coded TV in motion, folding mirrors, doubleblink hazards, remote tail close from inside vehicle etc.

TBH technicians rarely deviate from BMW training and if BMW say it cant be done, techs just repeat this message. (Though u do can get stuff done on the side at indys). Coding sounds more omnious than it is, basiclly you are switching an electronic toggle switch from aktiv (active) to nicht_aktiv (not active) or vice versa.

The folding mirrors line is found in the FRM Module:
Code line is:
ASP_KOMFORT_EINKLAPP (MY09-11)
aktiv

I got the same problem! Mine's 64-bit. I think there's a way of running things inside a 32-bit 'virtual machine' but it needs more computer tech knowledge than I have, and the top version of Win7 to do it. Pvr might know how it's done.

I told the dealer to do the programming on my car which is due today / tomorrow at the dealers. He did not say it was not possible (after I got past the bit of "it can all be done via the iDrive"). His technical lead should be able to do it, I have provided the list of items I want (folding mirror, whiper return even if power off, the alarm indicator setting etc).

What is the reason why you need a 32 bit laptop? Any 32 bit app will run in Win64 using WOW64?
