2014 X5 spy shots - what do you think?

To me it looks like large x3 which I don't like. Also those weird looking round tail lights look out of place. I thought they introduced L shape on all new models. What do you think?

Surely those rear lights are just part of the disguise.

I doubt it will be very much different to the current model apart from that huge reduction in weight.

It's about time BMW started using Aluminium in these cars. A saving if 450lbs is significant in terms of power to weight ratio and emissions. There was a statement in January that the base engine would now be a 2.0 litre petrol turbo type. There's no way that could power a 2.2 tonne 'X5/6' with any gusto!

Add the plastic front wings, and ally bonnet already in use and that's a start.. Probably can't meet Euro6 emissions regs (also due in 2014/15) without decreasing the weight significantly.

Given that a new X3 3.0d weighs 1875Kg unladen, I can't see the new X5 having a huge reduction in weight. 5% perhaps?
Same goes for fuel consumption .. X3 with stop/start etc gets 47mpg, X5 E70 38mpg. New X5 maybe 45mpg with the 2.0d (twin turbo, I hope)

At a push, they might get it down to very close to 2 tonnes - 265kgs less give or take. Add a triple turbo 2.0d (if there is one being planned as there will be from June for the 3.0D), and it's looking more realistic. The current models are already two VED bands lower than the E53, and the emission regs are only going to get tougher with time. :(

I hope new X5 will look less sporty than the current one as I plan to keep my car for while ;)
