I finally got my 4.8is and I love it

Post by X5Driver » Fri Mar 02, 2012 5:07 pm

Just to say Hi to everyone on the forum and introduce myself and my new X5.

A few years ago I drove a friends 4.8 X5 with a view to buying it but unfortunately I had a car to sell and it was just out of my reach so a few years on and I decided time for a change so sold my old car and started looking at options.

I have green blood and love everything Land Rover and own a series 2a and a Discovery 300tdi but couldnt get excited about the new stuff that Land Rover have to offer, also toyed with a cayenne but too damn ugly for me... I then went totally off my mind and thought I should get a 3 series diesel and be sensible but luckily I remembered that one day I shall be in the ground and money will be no good down there so though stuff it, it should be what I want not what I should have so went on the hunt for a petrol X5.

I looked at a few 4.6is models and was close to getting one of a few I was considering but then I saw the 4.8is I ended up buying and it was love at first sight, it was in my eyes the perfect colour inside and out and a good spec and in tidy condition, my only concern is its done 115k but has a full history and is tidy and looks well looked after.

My dream was interupted by the "active suspension inactive" warning coming on 2 days ago which caused a sleepless night but the next morning when I turned the key the warning was still there but the sound of the thing and lushness of the car just made me think oh well Ill get it sorted and has not tainted my love for this beast.

I look forward to being a part of the forum and have been scanning for a few days now and already upgraded the nav and put on a logo of the X5 and wouldnt mind doing the paddle shift mod sometime but bit scared of that!

So anyway hello form Cornwall and one happy X5 owner, occasionally I look out the window and get a feeling of pride when I see this beauty in the drive.

Until next time

Loving the car and the best colour
I was looking to get one of those but had to put my sensible head on as I tow a caravan and would probably only get about 10mpg
I have spent the last 6 months trying to making my diesel look like a "is" and am getting there
Good luck with the suspension errors I am sure someone will come along with some advice soon enough

Lovely car - best colour in my opinion too! ;)

Reckon those front windows will be tinted with a film and the backs all look OEM (no bubbles at the edge where the black surround filters into the clear glass).

Nice one on the splash screen - what did you go for? Any other mods planned apart from the paddles?

Ive got a grey x5 for splash screen not sure what other mods, am I right in thinking Sanj that you have dont the paddle shift mod? you seem very knowledgable as I have seen your name on so many posts along with others. Also the splash when does it come up, is it when you open a door or on ignition on? also mine keeps defaulting to the phone is there a way to stop that?

Not done the paddles... Thinking about the AMG one's though. Don't know why I would!

Knowledgeable! Me! No chance, just over exuberant!

Splash screen comes on when you open the door - it's there to 'greet' you!

I've not got that problem, some members on here have said they get this. Reckon there's a specific Bluetooth module that does this. Recently a thread was started on this subject, apart from that threads OP I only know of Jeegnesh having a similar issue. But he's lazy so I can't be bothered to look into it for him!

Besides, bit difficult when I can't repeat the problem.

+1 for the front tints being after market. BMW only ever offered dark glass from the 'B'-pillars backward whilst the E53 was in production. Only a problem if an over enthusiastic police or VOSA road stop picks it up. In Cornwall, I expect that's pretty unlikely..... :D
