Just a warning so no one gets caught up with losing their money on this.
I had a look at over 8 X5's before i brought one, and one of the ones i viewed was this one..
Two women drive this from surrey to us with out road tax and they said they wanted to let it go so any offers welcome, seen the car was in good condition. They mentioned we can drive away with the car and they can send all the paperwork for the car so we thought something isnt right.
while doing a deal with them one of the lady's she dropped £1000 off withing 5 mins of seeing the car so definately something not right. while we was looking at the car for signs of being dodgy, by the time she knocked another £600 off so thats £1600 OFF THE PRICE which was up for £7999
on further inspection the chasis stickers were not on the car when we spotted the chassis number on the suspension turret it had dents in it so therefore hammered the numbers in and also overspray around the suspension turret, and no tax disc in the car whatso ever.
Lady's name was anna and she came up wth the excuse we have come down in the evening and cant get the paperwork
car in question and add in autotrader and dealer website

A quick call to the boys in blue would probably be a very good idea! no visible VIN in the windscreen either then?
If it's recent, you can get an 'attention drawn' put out which means they'll be actively looking for it.
The index comes back to an X5 for insurance, though whether it's that one is unavailable.

Visible in the windscreen but when we looked at it closely it was black printed paper

Price alone should make you very suspicious, I know that they are dropping due to the fuel/engine size, but that's too bloody cheap, even to start with, just goes to back up my theory that you should get all details before even seeing the car, do every check possible, then view to see if everything is in order, and if they won't give you all the details over the phone, even down to the V5 ref. no. ( so as you can check the mot history on line ), then just move on and find a proper one.
I actually had this problem once, called up about an X5 asked all the questions, then asked for the V5 ref. no. And explained why I wanted it, she point blank refused to give it to me, saying that I might want to do something dodgy with it, like clone her car or something, I had to point out that if she looked at her ad. then the numbe plate was in full view for everyone to see, and that was enough to clone it, suffice to say, I didn't buy it.

My Blue one is still outside
I don't think the price is unreasonable.........try going to a car auction or two.......for that kind of money I expect diesel.
The first thing if I see the registration number of the car I am interested in is to enter it here on this free site
http://www.freecarcheck.org/
That's a long time without tax, bound to be other problems as well as the ones already stated, authorities should be notified.

You might expect to pay that sort of price at the auctions, but not at a dealers, that's why I made the comment.
