Folding Wing Mirrors

Post by dark_stranger » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:16 pm

Hi Guys and Girls, I have recently brought an X5 and today discovered that the little button next to my wing mirror controllers unfolds wing mirrors if pushed. That said, I'm not sure the are functioning correctly. When the passengers mirror is folded in, the mirror folds out as I would suspect. If the passenger mirror is folded out, and the button is pressed, the mirror folds in and then out again, not staying in the folded position. The drivers mirror, if folded and the button is pressed, the mirror makes a grinding/clunking noise and sometimes unfolds halfway and sometimes fully. If unfolded, and the button is pressed, again the clunking, but no movement. Any comments on how to resolve and if the mirrors are meant to fold in, Eventhough the passenger mirror does fold in and then out again.
Thanks in advance,

Well known issue - the forums search function should give you all the answers you need. I don't know the answer personally because I've not had the problem...

Folding Wing Mirrors

I point out, the drivers mirror is a little loose/wobbly. Would it be a case of tightening it up the mirror unit, of which would create a better folding mechanism connection to prevent the clicking? Can they be tightened up?

I recall there is some issue internal to the mirror housing that needs fixing. Several forum members have fixed theirs... Good luck!

Loose mirror could be the 3 torx screws under the cover (look under and up at the mirror) yo'll see a circular cap.

Rest is covered in the link (I hope).
