bloody keys again

hi guys
Im having trouble with my keys central locking again, both have been playing up again for a few weeks, but ive had a new battery fitted to car so i now now its not that. I have reprogrammed both keys and that worked for around an hour then they both stopped working, well actually they do work sparodically, sometimes one will open the door but then wont lock it etc. The central locking button inside the car works and so does the interior lights work when locked/unlocked with key in handle.
any ideas? dont understant why it reprogrammes the keys then they play up?
thanks
janette

Sounds like it could be the key fob batteries. BMW will tell you they aren't replaceable and will try and cfarge you £150 each for a new key but I've recently replaced the battery on one of mine. Think there's a 'how to' link somewhere.

Seems those folks have been having technical issues on and off for a couple of weeks now.
Back up at 21:40 though.

thanks for the replies, had a look at that site but as soon as it mentioned soldering my heart sank, never would i attemp to do that.
Im not really convinced its the batteries though, i can reprogramme both keys fine and they both work to open and close all doors, but as soon as i drive the car, they both stop working, its as though the ignition de programmes the keys? anyone else had this problem?

Since both keys are acting up at the same time, you may be right that it's not the keys.
I would next check the wiring to the alarm antenna which I believe goes into the rear tailgate and can break over time. There was a post about this on here some weeks ago, I'll see if I can find it for you.

hi, but the keys work fine after i reprogramme them, they fully work the locks and alarm fine, its only when i go for a drive they stop working? like the car un programmes the keys to work the central locking, if i didnt go for a drive they would work all the time.

hmm, so it's repeatable every time you drive? I would try moving the tailgate when the keys stop working, maybe down to the movement when driving. A long shot but at least fairly easy to test / eliminate as a cause.

so whey you drive with a key it 'unprogrammes' that particular key? how do you get the key working again? re-programme? or does it start working after a while?
the key's charging mechanism is built into the keyhole. i'm wondering if something's gone wrong with that which discharges the battery when the key is in the keyhole...

After I go for a drive neither keys work the central locking, it doesn't matter which key I use to drive the car, I then have to reprogrammed the keys and they both work fine untill I go for a drive, putting one key in the ignition shouldn't drain both batteries though, that's why I'm not convinced its a battery issue.

Hi, well both keys started working a few days ago? theres defo gremlins messing around with this car. they've worked fine now for about 3 days. wounder if its because the outside temp is getting warmer, ive heard these cars play up alot in the cold?
anyway fingers crossed they stay fine now till next winter
